Obituary

Alma May (Rice) Hockman , 91, of Souderton, Pennsylvania, formerly of Hilltown Township, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

She was the beloved wife of the late Walter "Walt" L. Hockman, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage. Born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Alma was the daughter of the late Edward Rice and Pearl (Sames) Rice. She attended Groveland School.

Before her marriage, she worked at the Pipersville Pants Factory. Alma then worked at CD Moyer Meats in Silverdale and also assisted on the family farm. She was then a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A faithful member and attender of Deep Run Mennonite Church East, Alma served over the years as a Summer Bible School teacher, Sunday school teacher, and youth sponsor.

Alma was known for her warm hospitality and enjoyed hosting family and friends in her home. She was a wonderful cook, loved gardening, and took great joy in tending to her Bluebird houses. She was an avid reader, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, and delighted in sewing with her grandchildren as well as embroidering and quilting. Alma was also known for her skill in Chinese checkers. Most of all, she cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved babysitting her grandchildren. Trips to Lancaster and meals at the Shady Maple were among her favorite outings.

She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie R. Wyse & husband, Edward of Perkasie, PA, and Joyce Marie Stellabott & husband, Michael of Perkasie, PA; her son, Dale W. Hockman & wife, Bonnie of Perkasie, PA; seven grandchildren—Bradley, Kelly, Tyler, Lindsay, Kate, Heather, and Mindy; and four great-grandchildren—Eden, Asher, Lucas, and Bodhi. She is also survived by her brother, Linwood Rice & wife, Doris of Dublin, PA, and her sister-in-law, Ruth Rice of Telford, PA.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alma was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Sue Hockman; her brothers, Owen S. Rice and H. Franklin Rice; and her sisters, Eleanor R. Lear and Dorothy Leatherman.
