Obituary

Arlene (Anders) Freed , 96, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Hatfield, PA went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

Arlene was the loving wife of the late Norman B. Freed for 69 years. She was born in Hatfield, PA to the late Wilson Anders and the late Mary Ellen (Moyer) Anders.

Arlene attended Souderton Area High School. She was employed as a kitchen supervisor for the former Harleysville Insurance Company in Harleysville, PA, until retiring in 1989.

Arlene was a longtime member of Towamencin Mennonite Church in Kulpsville, PA. She was a former member of Penn Valley Church in Telford, PA. She was a former Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher and served on the Hospitality Committee at both Penn Valley Church and Towamencin Mennonite Church. She was a member of Generations of Indian Valley in Souderton.

Arlene enjoyed eating with family and friends at the Keystone Diner and Generations. During her years of wintering in Sarasota, FL, she enjoyed singing in the Bahia Vista Choir. She also enjoyed playing games with various groups and growing flowers. She loved to make holiday and family events special.

Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was known for caring and welcoming spirit and her sense of humor.

Arlene is survived by her three daughters, Donna K. Mast & companion, Brent Moyer of Souderton, PA, Charlotte L. Detwiler & husband, Clyde of Souderton, PA, Jeanette L. Eisert & husband, James "Jad" of Souderton, PA; her eight grandchildren – Russell "Russ" Mast, Nichole Heinrich, Angela "Angie" Taylor, Tonya Young, Jason Detwiler, Traci Vasey, Jaclynn Texter, & Jessica Novashinski; her two step-grandchildren - Jaymie, & Patrick Eisert; her 20 great-grandchildren – Carlie, Josiah, Maddie, Zachary, Hannah, Ashley, Andrew, Shaelynn, Linnae, Lindsay, Ava, Mason, Miranda, Ethan, Tynesha, Prestin, Conlan, Destiny, Landon, & Avery; her two great-great-grandchildren – Sylvia and Noah; her brother, Wilson Anders & wife, Jean of Souderton, PA; and her three sisters, Esther Nice of Harleysville, PA, Mary Hendricks & husband, Jack of Selma, NC, Gloria Jean "Jeanie" Detweiler & husband, Laverne of Souderton, PA.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Doris Kolb & Emma Keeler; her son-in-law, Russell Mast; and her niece, Beverly Kershner.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, PA 18964 from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 pm.

A private burial will take place at Zion Memorial Gardens in Telford, PA.
