Arthur Leon Souder , age 97, of Scranton, PA, formerly of Souderton, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton.
Arthur was the beloved husband of Nancy (Hunsberger) Souder, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage. Born in Souderton, PA, he was the son of the late Forrest N. Souder and Lillian Mae (Potser) Souder.
He attended Franconia Elementary School until 1944. In 1950, Arthur was drafted into the United States Army and served as a Private First Class during the Korean Conflict. He was held as a Prisoner of War from May 1951 until August 1953.
Throughout his working life, Arthur was employed as a janitor for several local businesses, including Schoeneman, Lehigh Valley Dairy in Lansdale, French's of Souderton, Franconia School, and Fluid Energy of Hatfield. He retired in the early 1990s. Arthur was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Arthur is survived by his two daughters, Donna Krahling and her husband Robert of Buffalo, NY, and Carol Lynne Farrell and her husband Joseph of Quakertown, PA; seven grandchildren, Christel, Damon, Kimberly, Scott, Krista, Sarah, and Robert Jr.; and his great-grandchildren, Arden, Becca, Ethan, Talim, Riley, Blake, Bentley, Keiran, Sophia, Galilee, Ezra, and Shiloh.
He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Harold, Jimmy, Buddy, and Robert Souder, and by his sister, Francis Frier.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Arthur enjoyed gardening, lawn care, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family pets. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of the outdoors, riding his bicycle, playing pool, and enjoying an occasional round of golf.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
