It is with great sorrow that the family of Betty Lee (Knott) Green , 72, announce her passing on February 5, 2025, at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, PA. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Betty was born to Hayden Knott and Margaret (Horsely) Knott on February 17, 1952, in Anderson, IN as the younger sister to Peggy. The two were easy to identify as sisters, often dressed in matching outfits, blond bangs and cat-eye rimmed glasses, though most would guess their birth order wrong after Betty's 3rd grade growth spurt put her a few inches taller than Peggy. As adults they shared fond memories growing up in Indiana and visiting their grandparents' farm in Kentucky.

In her teenage years at Highland High School in Anderson, IN, you would be hard-pressed to find a club that Betty didn't belong to. She participated in every club from Math, Science, Latin, Drama and the 'Quiz Bowl Team'. She also played the clarinet, while dressed in a plaid kilt, in the Highlander Marching Band where she had the honor of playing for two sitting US Presidents.

It was in Betty's sophomore year at Highland that she caught the eye of a young man named Michael Charles Green. Mike knew immediately that he had found someone extraordinarily beautiful inside and out. In 1970 after graduating from high school, Betty went on to Indiana University. On June 10, 1972, Betty and Mike were married at an intimate ceremony in Chesterfield, IN. Later the two ventured east, where Betty continued her education at the University of Maryland, graduating with a BS in Nursing.

Betty's interest in medicine along with a strong desire to help and care for others led to her rewarding 40-year career in the field of nursing. She started out at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, followed by Indiana University Student Health Center in Bloomington. It was in Bloomington where she also took on the role of mom to her two children, Adam and Emily.

Betty continued her nursing career in the Bolingbrook School System (located in the suburbs of Chicago, IL) followed by Monroe-Woodbury Central School District in Orange County, NY.  While working full-time and raising her two children, Betty went back to school and received her master's degree in education from SUNY New Paltz, which enabled her to go from the role of 'school nurse' to 'school nurse teacher'. Betty continued working in the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District for 27 years until retiring in 2014.

After retirement, Betty remained active by taking up golfing and bicycling, until a wrist injury led her and Mike to discover a new passion in walking, which is how she came upon the American Volkssport Association (AVA). Inspired by the AVA's mission, Betty served as the North East Regional Director (NERD) for the AVA. After moving from NY to Souderton PA in 2016, Betty accepted the role of President for the local AVA Club (the Liberty Bell Wanderer). She was also an active member of other local AVA clubs in PA, NJ, and NY, and a valued member of the Harrington Village Social Committee.

Married to Mike for 52 years she was a proud mother and grandmother. Betty loved spending time with her family playing games, making crafts, and sharing new experiences. With her beautiful smile and warm hugs Betty made everyone feel comfortable, welcomed and loved. Compassionate, kindhearted, smart and thoughtful, Betty was easy to talk to and made friends everywhere she went. Betty's generosity extended to many animals throughout her life, she cared for eight cats in addition to helping foster/rehome several stray kittens and spoiling her granddogs boundlessly.

Always up for an adventure Betty embarked on several cross-country trips throughout her life –in a beat-up pinto with Mike, in a wood-paneled minivan with her teenage children, and in a multi-trip quest to achieve her goal to walk in all 50 states and all 51 capitals! Betty loved to be in nature in every season. You would often find her (poles in hand, visor on head and water bottle at the waist) walking with friends, snowshoeing, and exploring local gardens.

In addition to her husband, Michael, she is survived by her son, Adam Charles Green & wife, Morgan of Staten Island, NY; granddaughter, Anwen Mary Green of Staten Island, NY; daughter, Emily Marie Green & partner, Adam Hill of Lansdale, PA; sister, Peggy Herrmann of Middletown, IN; her two nieces, Lori Ahlm & husband, Eric of Dahlonega, GA, Candace Marie Day & fiancé, Tim Ellsworth of Chesterfield, IN; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Donald & Evelyn (Jean) Green, sister-in-law, Peggy Marie (Green) Day; brother-in-law, Rick Herrmann; niece, Teresa Throneburg; and nephew, Lee Throneburg.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at the Harrington Village Club House, 330 Harrington Way, Souderton, PA 18964, followed by a Celebration of Life service starting at 2:00 pm officiated by Reverend Mary Hansen.
