Carlos Torres Rosa, 82, of Telford, PA formerly of Fajardo, Puerto Rico entered into rest on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Quakertown Center.
Carlos was born February 5, 1939 on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands to the late Inocencio Torres Rivera and Severina Rosa Acosta.
He graduated from St. Croix Central High and attended the Tucson Electrical Training Program in Tucson, Arizona for Electrical Engineering.
After completion of studies as an electrical engineer he returned back to St.Croix where he worked at the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (W.A.P.A) of St.Croix for approximately 26 years and retired in 1992 as Plant Superintendent. During that time he owned the Cool Out Bar and Restaurant, in Peter's Rest for eight years.
Upon retirement he pursued other interests outside of his birthplace and relocated to different locations including Florida, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and lastly Pennsylvania.
During his time residing in the Dominican Republic, he dedicated most of his time to public service as an auxiliary command fire fighter reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel for the – Cuerpo de Bombero de Higuey, R.D - (Higuey Fire Dept.) and as the general Supervisor of the Civil Defense overseeing search and rescue operations.
Carlos was an avid pool and domino player participating in many tournaments in which he won many trophies and prizes. Aside from being a top notch electrician, he was very mechanically inclined and loved to take apart, fix, repair, any machine that had an engine. When working on a project he would always say "it either breaks, slits, or straightens". He loved crabbing or crab catching late at night when in season and going shooting his firearms. He enjoyed going to the country side to do some farming, ride horses, herd cows, sheep's and raise chickens, along any other farm animals.
He loved family gatherings, being around friends, acquaintances and meeting new people, made sure that everyone around him was comfortable, happy and made for everyone to have a good time. He always made time for a cold one (beer) and loved to eat seafood especially fried chicken. Occasionally made time to go camping for several days to the beach to have fun and named people close to him ("Viralata", "Tigeraso"..)
He is survived by his sons Hector Louis (Machito), Carlos Luis, Miguel and Angel Torres and son-in-law, Giovanni (Gio) Simileer. Daughters, Nereida Camacho, Julia (Julie) Torres, Magali Torres, Yolanda Torres-Simileer, Nancy Torres, Leyci Torres, Migdalia Felix-Rodriguez and daughters-in-law, Solsiret (Sol) Torres and Ramonita Torres.
Grandchildrens, Orlando Rivera, Maury Rivera, Nerida Rivera, Giancarlos Birriel, Gabriel Birriel, Juanita Torres, Carlos (Juno) Torres, Frances Marie Cardona, Ivelis Cardona, Angela Maria Cardona, Carlos Gianni Simileer, Giovan Skyler Simileer, Eliezer Garcia, Gabriel Velez, Faith Leimakamea Torres, Giancarlo Torres, Ferley De Jesus Torres, Davianna Liz De Jesus Torres, Karolyn De Jesus Torres and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Brothers and Sisters: Idalia (Yaya) Ortiz, Inocencia (Chencha) Garcia, Maria (Meri) Torres, Eleuterio (Teyito) Torres.
He was preceded in death by his son, Carlos Torres Jr. and his daughter, Elizabeth Torres, brothers and sisters: Luis Ortiz, Inocencio (Chencho) Torres, Jorge Torres, Miguel Torres, Jose Torres, Carmen Garcia, Carmen Torres, Cielo Maldonado.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 22nd, 2022 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, PA 18964. From 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
