Claude Y. Alderfer , 84, of Hatfield, Pennsylvania, formerly of Souderton, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

Claude was the loving husband of Claire (Reahm) Alderfer, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Born in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William L. Alderfer and the late Ida (Yoder) Alderfer.

He was a 1959 graduate of Souderton Area High School. Claude was a dedicated and hardworking man throughout his life, spending many years in faithful employment. He worked at American Olean Tile in Lansdale from 1959 to 1997, at the Estate of George S. Snyder in Hatfield from 1997 to 2004, and later at Ace Hardware in Lansdale from 2004 until retiring in 2025.

Claude's faith was an important part of his life.

He greatly enjoyed sports, especially cheering for the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. In his youth, he played Legion Baseball and later participated in church softball. Claude loved working outdoors, gardening, and taking on home improvement projects. He especially treasured family vacations to the Outer Banks and Maine. Above all, he was a loving husband, devoted father, and trusted friend—known as a hardworking, dependable, kind, gentle, and humble man.

In addition to his wife, Claire, he is survived by several nieces and nephews: Kenneth Clemmer and wife, Gayle of Harleysville, Gerald Clemmer and wife, Lydia of Telford, Michael Clemmer and wife, April of Strasburg, Andrew Clemmer and wife, Pam of Hagerstown, MD, and Don Gahman and wife, Marilyn of Telford.

In addition to his parents, Claude was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Anne Alderfer; his sisters, Ethel Y. Clemmer and Miriam Y. Gahman; and his two nieces, Karen Clemmer and Connie Myers.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. A future inurnment will take place at Souderton Mennonite Church Memorial Garden.
