Obituary

Dang Van Nguyen , 68, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Telford, PA entered into rest on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at his residence.

Dang was the loving husband of Thu Tam Nguyen for 45 years. He was born in Long An, Vietnam to the late Vinh Van Giuse Nguyen and Nham Thi Maria Nguyen.

Dang attended high school in Vietnam. He served as an operator on a vessel for the Vietnam Navy at the age of 17. In 1975, he came to America and met his wife at Indiantown Gap. They were the first Vietnamese immigrants to get married in the area where they were recognized by the local newspaper. He worked for the former Leonard Culkin steel company in Hilltown, as a machine operator for K'NEX in Hatfield, and as a manger for a local paper company. He was the owner of the Kim Nguyen Vietnamese Restaurant, Souderton for more than 10 years. During his restaurant years, they also hosted immigrants coming from Vietnam in their home.

Dang was a member of the Hoi Khang Chien in Souderton where he and his family would sing and perform traditional Vietnamese music and dance for their local community. This would also extend to the children of other immigrant families in the area. He also served as a soccer coach for the local immigrant community.

He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Hatfield.

Dang loved listening to Bolero with his hands behind his head, legs crossed, and his sunglasses on. He enjoyed relaxing in the sun, swinging in his hammock, and sitting in his rocking chair. He loved being outdoors before sunrise until sunset, while gardening, refurbishing furniture, helping neighbors, and thrifting. He also loved the beach, boating, and fishing.

Dang organized various events and gatherings which he designed and built props for. He was a self taught handyman. He enjoyed karaoke, dancing, cooking, traveled to Vietnam annually, watching the news on CNN and SBN, and football. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them various things. He also was a lover of animals especially birds and fish.

Dang was loved by all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters, Julie Vo & husband, Binh of Land O' Lakes, FL, Joanne Nguyen & companion, Victor Chang of Philadelphia, PA, Jenny Ellis of Los Angeles, CA, Diane Nguyen & husband, Sang Le of Odessa, FL; his 10 grandchildren – Brianna, Olivia, Sapphira, Milania, Ekko, Poett, Lyrique, Vanessa, Devon, & Caden; his seven siblings, Ngoc Anh Thi Ine Nguyen, Ngoc Anh Thi Matta Nguyen, Trong Thi Matta Nguyen, Them Thi Maria Nguyen, Le Ngoc Thi Maria Nguyen, Son Van Phanxico Nguyen, and Pham Thi Rosa Nguyen, all of Long An, Vietnam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Quang Van Philipphe Nguyen.

A viewing will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, PA 18964 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Another viewing will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA 19440 from 9:00 am – 10:00 am, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 am.
