Obituary

David A. Coates , 78, of Harleysville, PA; formerly of Newport News, VA passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at his residence.

David was born in Norristown, PA to the late Lawrence B. Coates and the late Ellen (Ernie) Coates.

He graduated from Abington High School in Abington, PA, class of 1964.

From 1964-1966, David served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After his service, he worked in the banking industry in Philadelphia while attending computer programming school. After completing his certification, he went on to work as computer analyst in the shipbuilding industry for companies like Northrop Grumman and Huntington Ingalls Industries in Newport News, VA.

David was a former attendee of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glenside, PA and a former member of the Willow Grove VFW Post 3612.

He was an avid stamp collector, loved stamps, and belonged to various stamp clubs. David was also an avid reader, loved listening to music, and working on jigsaw puzzles. He loved animals especially dogs.

David was a hardworking, quiet, thoughtful, kind man who was very patriotic.

He is survived by his brother, Michael Coates & wife, Susan of Cincinnati, OH; his two sisters, Victoria Coates Reimer of Altamont, NY, Debra Glass & husband, Gary of Harbor Twp., NJ; his brother-in-law, Stephen E. DeCoursey of Harleysville, PA; and his numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Melinda J. DeCoursey.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
