He was the beloved husband of Edythe "Edie" M. (Reily) Canning, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, Dennis was the son of the late William Canning and the late Ethel (Wood) Canning.

Dennis was a proud graduate of North Penn High School, Class of 1961. He went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force as an Airman Second Class. Following his military service, Dennis worked as an auto mechanic for T.D. Keyser in Lansdale from 1965 to 1981. Dennis had a passion for motorcycles and was a longtime member of the Blue Comets Motorcycle Club in Skippack, PA, as well as the local Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) Chapter in Harleysville, PA. He found great joy in the open road and especially cherished the many trips he and his wife took together, including rides to Lake George, New York, and Daytona Beach, Florida.
