Derek John Stevens , 79, of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, formerly of Lansdale, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Kindred Hospital Philadelphia–Havertown.
Derek was the beloved husband of Phyllis (Wallace) Stevens, with whom he shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. Born in Marlborough, England, he was the son of the late Leslie H. L. Stevens and the late Constance (Battman) Stevens.
He was educated at St Mary's Primary School and St Peter's Boys School in Marlborough. Moved to Marlborough Grammar School where his father was Head of Mathematics and Deputy Head of School. He graduated from Marlborough Grammar School with the Class of 1966 and went on to attend Queen Mary's College, University of London, where he studied Physics.
Derek began his career as a computer programmer before pursuing his entrepreneurial dream by founding XTheta, Inc. in Skippack, Pennsylvania. He proudly led the company until his retirement in 2022.
A devoted man of faith, Derek was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lansdale, where he enjoyed worship and fellowship with his church family.
In addition to his loving wife, Phyllis, Derek is survived by his children: Ron Powell and his wife, Michelle, of Irmo, South Carolina; Joshua Stevens, Andrew Stevens, and Hunter Stevens, all of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; Samara Pritchett of New Jersey; Alex Stevens of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; and Jessica Zumwalt of Goldsboro, North Carolina. Derek will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a man of deep faith and quiet strength. He was an avid reader who loved learning, one of his lifelong friends from England, Richard Smith send this;
Derek was always a great reader and maintained his interest in learning about everything – he loved to discuss any subject. A group of us shared a house together in London. Derek developed a routine of taking a book to read in the bath but had a tendency to fall asleep and drop his book in the water. He even managed to be asleep in the bath once when a burglar broke into the house and Derek slept through it all. Derek also enjoyed taking his family on international vacations, and was a lifelong supporter of Manchester United Futbol Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Stevens, and his grandson, Ronnie Powell.
