Donald Joseph Cory , 82, of Hilltown Twp., PA; formerly of Philadelphia, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Roseanne (Johnston) Cory for 36 years. Don was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Bernard Clifton Cory and the late Agnes (Callaghan) Cory.
In his younger years, Don was a Boy Scout for Unami Lodge / Order of the Arrow. Don attended Stetson Junior High School and graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in Philadelphia, class of 1958. He played J.V. and Varsity Football and was a member of the Track and Gym Teams. He pole vaulted in the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Don was a talented jack of all trades. He enjoyed woodworking, creating things such as chests and tables. He also constructed fun things for his children, including a float for parades. He was a gifted and skilled professional drummer. He performed solo and in different types of bands. He was even in a band with his wife and brother in law. He also played the bongo drums and spoons at family gatherings. He loved and enjoyed many different styles of music. He especially loved jazz. In his older years, he enjoyed listening to Gregorian Chants by the Monks. Don also enjoyed coaching and watching his three daughters softball, basketball, and soccer games and any other activities they were involved in. Among other things, he loved to read, travel, exercise, kayak, craft jewelry, and go for long bike rides. Don was an avid photographer and even had his own darkroom while residing in Philadelphia.
Don was employed as an Electrical Foreman for most of his working career for various contractors. He worked for Vasoli Electric Company in Oreland, PA for many years, until his retirement in 2001. He was a member and steward of the IBEW Local 98 in Philadelphia. Don was a devoted member of the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church where he served as an Elder, Usher, Sunday School Teacher, and did electrical and audiovisual work in many different capacities. He also volunteered his time for Bridge of Hope, the county prison in Doylestown, and different programs that involved his children and grandchildren.
More than anything, Don loved to be with his family. He was a devoted family man, and a devout Christian. Don was a wise, kind, loving, understanding, and compassionate man who had a great sense of humor, and was always willing to listen and help out where needed.
Don is survived by his two daughters, Donna Ann Nacarella & husband, Larry, of Hilltown Twp., PA, Heidi Jo Cory & fiancé, Keith Alderfer, of Telford, PA; his granddaughter, Regan Cory Nacarella, of Hilltown Twp., PA; his grandson, Eric Cory Nacarella, of Hilltown Twp., PA; his sister, Eileen Luisi of FL; and his brother, Bernard Cory & wife, Theresa of Philadelphia, PA., and his many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents & wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Roseanne Cory, and his two sisters, Marian Connell & Patricia Caputo.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, 713 Blooming Glen Road, Blooming Glen, PA 18911 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 pm.
Burial will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 9:00 am at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church Cemetery.
