Obituary

Donald Charles Green , 91, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021 at his home in Souderton, PA. He was born and raised in Elwood, Indiana to the late Virgil Green and the late Lillian Green (nee Robertson) and was a resident of Chesterfield, IN for 64 years.

Don graduated from Wendell Wilkie High School in Elwood, IN, class of 1947.  Don always said he was "born and raised a carpenter".  He worked as a lifelong carpenter, construction foreman, superintendent, and an independent contractor throughout the Madison county area in Indiana. He later helped run Virgil Green and Sons construction company.

Don was an active member of the Chesterfield Christian Church. He coordinated the Salvation Army collection at Christmas for many years and held positions of Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Elder (Elder Emeritus), member of the board and president of the board.  He was also active in boy scout leadership for many years and served as a Charter Representative for the scouts. Don was a cub scout master, webelos leader, boy scout adult leader, all in Chesterfield, IN. He was also the recipient of the Kikthawenund Council Adult Leader Silver Beaver Award.

Don loved camping, golfing and traveling with the love of his life, Jean. They shared many adventures together and several winters at Gulf Shores in their RV. He enjoyed renovating many areas of the beautiful home they shared.  He was blessed with a wonderful extended family and with many good friends over the years.

Don was a hardworking, outgoing man who always had a smile on his face and enjoyed a good joke.

He is survived by his son, Michael Green & wife, Betty of Souderton, PA; his three grandchildren, Candace Day & companion, Tim Ellsworth of Chesterfield, IN, Adam Green & wife, Morgan of Staten Island, NY, Emily Green & companion, Adam Hill of Lansdale, PA; his great-granddaughter, Anwen Green of Staten Island, NY; his sister, Betty King & husband, Alan of Prospect, TN; his brother, Jack Green & wife, Barbara of Elwood, IN; his two sisters-in-law, Lois Green of Elwood, IN & Dorothy "Dot" Green of Georgia; and his brother-in-law, William "Bill" Hains of Anderson, IN and his son-in-law, William Day & wife, Kay of Middletown, IN and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife of 71 years, Jean, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Day; his half-brother, Robert Green; his three brothers, Raymond "Ray" Green, William "Bill" Green, & Max Green; his sister, Margaret Hains, and his sister-in-law, Beverly Green.

Don will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.  We are thankful for the support of Family Caregivers, Ascend Hospice and Palliative Care, and Senior Therapy Services for the wonderful care given to Don in the past year.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Indiana at the Chesterfield Christian Church at the convenience of the family.

Inurnment will take place at Bronnenberg Cemetery in Chesterfield, IN where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife.
