Donald Cameron Patterson III , age 85, of Hatfield, Pennsylvania, and formerly of New Providence, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
He was the beloved husband of Mary "Polly" B. Patterson, with whom he shared 26 years of marriage.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Donald was the son of the late Donald Cameron Patterson Jr. and the late Marguerite C. Patterson. He graduated from Chatham High School in Chatham Township, NJ, in 1958. He went on to pursue higher education at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, the University of South Carolina in Columbia, and Emory University Law School, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Donald had a distinguished career in law, municipal finance, and investment banking. He practiced law at the former Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon in New York City. In the financial sector, he held a position at Blythe Eastman Paine Webber, as Associate Managing Director of the Municipal Finance Department, contributing significantly to the process of municipal bond funding and infrastructure projects. He worked in the Public Finance Department, and as an investment banker at Bear Stearns in New York for over a decade.
A man of many interests, Donald enjoyed sailing, boating, and do-it-yourself projects. He was an enthusiastic coach of his children's soccer teams and was known for his generosity, work ethic, and love of family.
In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his children: Kenneth "Ken" S. Patterson & wife, Kimberly of Putnam Valley, NY, and Susan C. Grant & husband, Ian of Telford, PA; his cherished grandchildren: Lillianna Patterson, Ashlynn Grant, William Grant, and Abigail Grant; and his sister, Gail Yorkston of Middletown, DE.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Jane Elizabeth Patterson; and his brother, Richard Patterson.
In accordance with Donald's wishes, there will be no formal services.
