Doris (Kratz) Dayton , 84, of Quakertown, formerly of Hilltown, PA peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 3rd, 2022.

Doris was born in Hatfield, PA to the late Linford L. and Pearl (Gehman) Kratz, and was married to the late Robert T. Dayton for over 36 years.

A graduate of Hatfield High School class of 1955, she attended Plains Mennonite Church as a youth. She then attended secretarial school and worked briefly as a bookkeeper for a local company. An adventurous teenager, Doris travelled to Arizona one summer to teach Bible School classes on a Native American Reservation. Upon marriage she attended Doylestown Mennonite Church.

A devoted mother and grandmother, her career as a homemaker kept her very busy harvesting, canning, and freezing produce from the family garden. She was well known in the family for her delicious creamed corn as well as her outstanding strawberries which she often sold at a roadside stand. Doris baked beautiful and tasty Christmas cookies each year. She was also blessed with a green thumb. Houseplants flourished under her care. Doris was also an accomplished seamstress, making many clothes and gowns for the family's daily and formal activities. Always ready to travel, Doris especially enjoyed family vacations, planning camping trips to the New England states, Florida, and Colorado. In later years she travelled with her sister to many National Parks, including a trip to Alaska.

A humble woman, she cherished spending time with each of her grandchildren and great grandson. She loved being outdoors, tending her flowers and gardens and mowing her own lawn well into her 80s. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds, doing puzzles, and solving Sodokus and crosswords.

She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis D. Utzinger and husband Robert of Mendham, NJ, Deborah K. Dayton and husband Steven Landis of Sellersville, PA; her two sons, Patrick R. Dayton of Pennsburg, PA and Robert T. Dayton, II and wife Susan of Quakertown, PA;  her eight grandchildren, Bobby, Becky, Billy, Devon, Erin, Alex, Robbie and Maddie. and her great-grandson, Linden Rauscher; her sister, Shirley Brandes of Grantsville, MD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Dayton

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Plains Mennonite Church, 50 Orvilla Road, Hatfield, PA 19440.

Burial will take place at Hilltown Baptist Church Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
