Doris G. Freed , 87, of Lansdale, PA entered into rest on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Abington-Lansdale Hospital in Lansdale due to COVID-19. She formerly resided 22 years in Telford and prior to that in Elroy.
She was born April 9, 1933 in Vernfield, PA to the late Joseph H. Freed and the late Matilda K. (Godshall) Freed.
Doris had worked in a hosiery mill in Lansdale, in the kitchen at the Rockhill Mennonite Home in Sellersville, and for the Holiday Inn in Kulpsville, PA.
She was a member of Franconia Mennonite Church.
Doris loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed singing in choirs, playing piano, reading, knitting afghans and pot holders, and attending the "Elroy Breakfast Group". Earlier, Doris had also enjoyed taking trips with family and bus trips with friends, and recording them with many photos. She collected angels and was faithful in remembering special days by sending cards and letters to family and friends.
Doris liked to co-ordinate her outfits, and was a generous person with a good sense of humor.
She is survived by her brother, Merrill G. Freed & wife, Elaine (Sensenig) of Cornwall, PA; her two sisters, Jean G. Clemmer & husband, Earl of Hatfield, PA, Nancy G. Alderfer of Harleysville, PA; her 10 nieces and nephews; her 12 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a great-great-niece.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Alvin H. Alderfer, a nephew and a great-niece.
Due to current COVID restrictions, a graveside service only and burial will be held for extended family on at the Franconia Mennonite Cemetery, 613 Harleysville Pike, Telford PA 18969.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness), 802 W. Broad Street, Bethlehem PA 18018, or to a charity of your choice. Her family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at St. Mary Manor for their care of Doris the past two years.
