Dorothy F. (Wismer) Detweiler, 77 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 9, 2020 at her Green Lane, PA residence following a struggle with cancer.  She was the wife of Dennis M. Detweiler for 57 years.

Born in Franconia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Abram H. and Elsie B. (Freed) Wismer.

After graduating from Christopher Dock Mennonite High School (now Dock Mennonite Academy), Lansdale, PA , she was a Bookkeeper for the former Bergey & Gehman Fuel Oil Co. in Perkasie, PA  during the early 1960's.  Dorothy and her family lived in Putnam Station, NY from 1970 until 1988 where she worked as the Receptionist/Office Manager at the Ticonderoga Animal Hospital several miles north of her home.  Upon moving back to the Souderton, PA area in 1988, she was employed several years as a Bookkeeper for H. L. Garges, Inc. of Telford, PA.

In her preteen years, she came to believe the Bible verse that reads "All people have sinned and are not good enough for God's glory."  (International Children's Bible)  She prayed for God to forgive her past sins and determined to be a diligent follower of Jesus from that time forward.

In her late teens, she became involved in teaching young children in Sunday School.  That led to a developing passion for teaching the Bible to children which she did for 50 years.

Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and, in later years, was deeply involved in sewing comforters for distribution through the Mennonite Central Committee of Harleysville, PA  and Christian Aid Ministries of Ephrata, PA.

She set up a sewing center in her basement where a varying number of women would gather several times a week to complete comforters, as well as sew and fill Health and School Kits.  Many of these were shipped to Honduras through Healthy Niños Honduras, headquartered in Green Lane, PA.

Dorothy was a member of Perkiomenville Mennonite Church from 1990 to the present time.

In addition to her husband, Dennis, survivors include two daughters:  Brenda Lynn Eshleman and husband, Randy, of Lebanon, PA, Bonita Joy Ness and husband, Andy, of Green Lane, PA, 4 Grandchildren: Breanna and Ryan Eshleman, Lauren and Drew Ness and a sister: Kathryn Nice of Montrose, PA.

Other significant persons are Karl Keeler (former husband of Beverly Ann (Detweiler) Keeler who died in 1997), Karl's wife Denise and their daughters: Arielle Miller and husband Andrew, (with their 2 sons, Jayson and Benjamin), Abigail Keeler, and Shiloh Keeler.  All live in Lititz, PA.

In addition to her parents and daughter, Beverly Ann, Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Paul Wismer, sister-in-law Betty Wismer, and brother-in-law Paul Nice.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Sunday, November 15, 2020 from 12 noon to 1:30pm at Perkiomenville Mennonite Church, 1836 Gravel Pike, Perkiomenville, PA  18074.  The funeral service will be held in the church auditorium. Burial will be at the Franconia Mennonite Church Cemetery.  Social Distancing protocol will be followed.
