Dorothy Dey Hirst died on July 11th, 2023. She was born in Baltimore, MD in 1936. Her parents divorced when she was 8 years old and she moved to Philadelphia with her mom, Dorothy King.

She attended Germantown High School and graduated in 1954. She met the love of her life in 1954 and married James J. Hirst Jr. in April of 1955. Their first daughter, Beth Strunk (Howard) of Wymossing, was born in March 1957. Together, they had 4 other children- Christine Hanebury (Stephen) of Collegeville, James J. Hirst III (Karen) of Palm Harbor, FL, Amy Madrill (Kevin) of Hatfield and Jeffrey D. Hirst (Karen) of Endicott, NY.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy, father, Ernest Dey, brother, Robert Bernhard, brother Richard Bernhard, sister, Bernice Clyde, granddaughter, Lindsey Anne Hanebury and husband, James J. Hirst, Jr.

Dorothy was fortunate to work in the school district where her children attended school. She knew where they were and they knew where she was. Dorothy worked at Jenkintown High School in the guidance office from 1972- 1981. Dorothy was very active in supporting student activities. She traveled with teams to various out of district functions, she sold tickets to football and basketball games, she chaperoned dances and other events. From there, she went to work at Upper Dublin Township, where she was the administrative assistant to the Director of Public Works. She retired in 2000. After retiring, Dorothy worked part-time at Kenneth Kratz Real Estate.

Dorothy's husband died in January 2014, at which time, she became more involved with all her grandchildren, Jason Strunk, Amy Strunk, Stephen Hanebury Jr, Ally Applegate, Jena Hanebury, Karly Vickers, Todd Walter, Rylie Hirst, Ethan Hirst, Julie Hirst, David Walter, Claire Hirst, and Adam Hirst. Now, she also enjoys time with 10 great- grandchildren- Austin, Jayce, Skylar, Jackson, Carter, Savannah, Blakely, Maeve, Giuseppe, and Emily.

Dorothy loved to read, sew and do cross-stitching. Dorothy also enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables. Dorothy and Jim loved to spend time at the beach. That's where their ashes will be distributed together.
