Obituary

Dorothy B. (Bishop) Oliver , 93, of Souderton, formerly of Chalfont, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville.

She was the loving wife of the late Howard E. Oliver for 71 years. Dorothy (affectionately known as Dot or Dottie) was born in Blooming Glen, Pennsylvania, to the late Willis Bishop and the late Mildred (Detweiler) Bishop.

She graduated from Hilltown High School, class of 1948. Though Dorothy worked at different jobs throughout her life, her longest employment–for over twenty years–was as a waitress and grill cook at the Bullpen Dairy Bar in Chalfont, which was owned by former major league pitcher Bobby Shantz.

Dorothy enjoyed staying active, even into her later years. Among her many interests were golfing, bowling, billiards, and traveling. When her children were younger, Dorothy planned family camping vacations to destinations throughout the country — including Colorado, Wyoming, New England, and the Smoky Mountains.

Dorothy was well-loved by both family and friends; she was kind, good-humored, and good-hearted. As the oldest child in a large family, she loved planning family get-togethers and remained close to her siblings throughout her life.

She is survived by her four children, Steven Oliver of Souderton, Gregg Oliver and wife, Jean, of Doylestown, Donna Oliver of Beloit, WI, Douglas Oliver and partner, Jean Gipple, of Eugene, OR; her five grandchildren – Garrett, Neal, Cody, Mark, and Adam; her two brothers, James Bishop and wife, Kathy, of Fruitland Park, FL, Jon Ray Bishop and wife, Diane, of Perkasie; her two sisters-in-law, Edna Bishop of Sellersville, Mai Bishop of Hatfield; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Darline McGinn; her brother-in-law, Raymond "Reds" McGinn; her brothers, Jay Roy Bishop and Jan Michael Bishop, and her sister, Sandra Mayer.
