E. Duane Bishop , 74, of Bedminster, Pennsylvania, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at his residence.

He was the beloved husband of Patricia "Pat" (Histand) Bishop, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Born in Springfield, Vermont, Duane was the son of the late Henry Earl Bishop and the late Esther (Godshall) Bishop.

Duane graduated from Green Mountain Union High School in Chester, Vermont, with the Class of 1969. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, Virginia, in 1973. He later pursued theological studies at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and completed his Master of Divinity at Eastern Mennonite Seminary in 1992.

From 1973 to 1975, Duane served with Eastern Mennonite Missions in Vietnam, teaching English as a second language and leading Bible classes. In 1974, he married Pat and she joined him in his work. He continued this work in Hong Kong from 1975 to 1977. Returning to the United States, he taught mathematics from 1977 to 1981 in Farmville and Luray, Virginia.

In 1981, Duane moved to Pennsylvania, where he worked as a salesman alongside his father-in-law, Clyde Histand, at the former Paul W. Histand Equipment Company in Doylestown. During this time, he became an active member of Doylestown Mennonite Church, serving as an elder, teacher, and in leadership roles, including assistant pastor in 1988 and lead pastor from 1992 to 1999.

Later, Duane worked as a carpenter with Gehman Custom Builders in Harleysville for several years, and then as a bookkeeper with Landis Fence Company in Dublin until his retirement.

He was a faithful member of Deep Run East Mennonite Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher.

Duane enjoyed traveling to visit his children when they lived in Russia, Germany, and Mozambique while serving with Mennonite mission organizations. He also loved reading, biking, playing board games, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Known for his calm, gentle, and caring nature, Duane was well-spoken, had a sense of humor, and deeply valued his faith. He cherished staying connected with others and was a natural storyteller who truly enjoyed people.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Jenny Bishop Kempf and her husband, Joel, of Perkasie, Pennsylvania; his son, Loren Bishop and his wife, Doreen, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and his seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Gary L. Bishop and his wife, Louise, of Lakewood, California, and his sister, Cheryl L. Fitzgerald of Boardman, Ohio.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Deep Run East Mennonite Church, 350 Kellers Church Road, Perkasie, Pennsylvania, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.

A private inurnment will take place in the future at Deep Run East Mennonite Cemetery.
