Elizabeth "Betty" Hackman, 96, of Souderton, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 27, 2022, at Souderton Mennonite Homes, Souderton, PA.

Betty was born in Sellersville, PA, on July 31, 1925, the daughter of the late Tyson and Alice (Moyer) Hackman, and for most of her life, Betty called 48 Diamond Street, Souderton, her home.

In 1943, she graduated ninth in her class of 93 from Souderton Area High School. She worked at several jobs, beginning with SKF Industries before moving on to R.E. Hope Clothing Co. where she worked in the office. She also was employed as a secretary at Lemon Pharmaceutical. She is best known for her 35-plus years at Souderton Savings and Loan, which later became Pennview Savings before merging with Univest Bank and Trust Company. She began as a teller and moved through the ranks before being named vice president and assistant secretary.

Betty was a longtime member of Souderton-Telford Business and Professional Women's Club and served a term as president.

After retiring, Betty enjoyed volunteering, beginning at EM Crouthamel Elementary School and also giving her time to Care and Share Thrift Shoppes and Generations of Indian Valley. She was a member of Franconia Mennonite Church, and her dedication and love for her church and church family was evidenced by the fact that she volunteered in the church office for nine years. After she moved to Souderton Mennonite Home, she enjoyed volunteering as a cashier in The Corner Store.

Betty enjoyed traveling. She had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed cooking meals and baking for others. She enjoyed drawing and was faithful in remembering friends and family with cards, notes of encouragement and gifts. Her generosity touched many lives.

She is survived by niece Mary Jane (Hackman) Souder and husband Kenneth of Souderton, PA; nephew Earl Derstine and wife Jan of Telford, PA; great niece Heidi D. (James M.) DeFehr of Winnipeg, Canada, and their children: Alexander, William and Anna Sophia; great nephew Zachariah C. (Kara N.) Derstine of Telford, PA, and their children, Celeste, Stellan and Scarlett; as well as great nieces and nephews Cindi Middlekauff, Dana (Middlekauff) Wieseman, Scott Middlekauff and Todd Middlekauff.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her two brothers, Laverne Hackman and Floyd Hackman, and her sister, Beulah Hackman.

A Celebration of Gratitude will be on Monday, September 26, 2022 beginning at 7:00pm at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, PA 18964. Friends may greet the family from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
