Elizabeth "Liz" A. (Schmitt) Knapp, 84, of Quakertown, PA passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at her residence.
Liz was the loving wife of Kenneth "Ken" G. Knapp for 31 years. She was born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania to the late Christian Schmitt and the late Hazel Anderson Schmitt.
Liz graduated from Southern Lehigh High School in Center Valley, PA, class of 1957.
Liz worked as waitress at a local restaurant in Green Lane, PA and then at the Quakertown Farmer's Market. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. During this time, Liz also worked as an artist making Pennsylvania Dutch jewelry from her home. She later worked for Artistic Glass in Trumbauersville, PA.
Liz was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader in the Lower Milford area. She was very involved in the Lower Milford Elementary School Parent Teacher's Association. Liz was a member of the ladies auxiliary for Silverdale and Lower Milford Fire Departments. She was member of the Red Hat Society and a member of the Sunshine Foundation in Trevose, PA.
Liz loved spending the holidays with her family which included get-togethers, reunions, and picnics. She instilled the importance of family and created many of the holiday traditions that are still being carried on by the family today. Liz was very artistic and enjoyed sewing, baking, scrapbooking, quilting, and flower gardening. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and camping.
Liz was a hardworking, loving, caring, woman who was very generous with her time and liked to laugh.
In addition to her husband, Ken, she is survived by her four daughters, Anna Marie Pierson & husband, Walter of Rancho Cordova, CA, Carol Ann Slifer & husband, Walter of Quakertown, PA, Elizabeth Ann Berkstresser & husband, Mark of Climax, NC, Brenda Lee Hardy & husband, Alex of Perkasie, PA; her son, Arthur Raymond Steich of Quakertown, PA; her step-daughter, Sherry Lynn Knapp-Brown of Fairfield, OH; her step-son, Kenneth W. Knapp of Hatfield, PA her 10 grandchildren – Joshua, Beth Ann, Angela, Alex, Allyson, Steven, Carissa, Erin, Jennifer, and Mitchell; her six great-grandchildren – Karl, Emmylou, Landon, Brynlee, Elora, Cash; her sister, Elsa Marie Kerschner of Kunkletown, PA; and her two brothers, James William Schmitt & wife, Janice of Crisfield, MD, Peter Christian Schmitt & wife, Susan of Slatington, PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Raymond Steich; her granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Slifer; her grandson, Kevin Michael Steich; her step-daughter, Julie Ann Knapp; her step-son-in-law, Barry Brown; and her brother, Phillip Schmitt.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, PA 18964 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am.
Inurnment will take place at Hilltown Union Cemetery.
