Obituary

Florence "Flo" (Gahman) Histand , 91, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Blooming Glen, PA and Bedminster Township, PA went peacefully home to be with the Lord with family around her on July 13, 2024 at Souderton Mennonite Homes (SMH).

Florence was the loving wife of the late Herbert H. Histand for 55 years. Florence was born in Bedminster Township, PA to the late Abram S. Gahman and the late Hannah (Trauger) Gahman.

Florence graduated from the Public Schools of Bedminster Township on June 4, 1947 and proceeded to attain her GED in 1977. Florence was employed at Myers Pie Factory, sewed baseballs at home for the Hubbert family of Perkasie and Dudley Sports, nurses' aide at Hatfield Mennonite Homes, now The Willows of Living Branches, cook at Hatfield Mennonite Homes, then Dock Retirement Community now part of Living Branches. Florence retired from Dock Retirement Community in 1999 after 23 years of service. In retirement, she worked part time in the Landis Supermarket bakery, Telford. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Florence grew up in Deep Run Mennonite Church East, attended Calvary Church of Souderton, Souderton Mennonite Church and was a current member of Blooming Glen Mennonite Church (BGMC). She volunteered at Care and Share Thrift Shoppes in Souderton and the Mennonite Resource Center (MRC) in Harleysville. Florence (and husband, Herb) provided extensive care for their grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, flower and vegetable gardening, playing organ, singing, sewing, crocheting other needlework crafts, cooking, baking, and entertaining.  Florence enjoyed being outdoors with family, and walking. Florence was good at doing puzzles and enjoyed playing card and board games, including Skipboo and Rummikub, word search and like activities.

Florence was a God-honoring, loyal, gracious, caring, steadfast woman with integrity who was extremely meticulous in her dress, food preparation and serving.

She is survived by her two daughters, Josephine Histand Martin & husband, C. Conrad of Souderton, PA and Linda Sue Mack & husband, Dale of Telford, PA; her three grandchildren, Amanda Reitz & husband, Ryan of Merztown, PA; Travis Mack & wife, Jessica of Telford, PA; and Christy Mack of Telford, PA; her three sisters Mary Emma Detweiler of Souderton, PA, Elsie Godshall of Souderton, PA, and Ruthie Gahman of Denver, CO.

In addition to her parents and husband, Florence was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Marie Histand; her brother, Monroe T. Gahman; her sister, Mamie "Dottie" I. Adams; her sister-in-law, Ruth W. Gahman, and her two brothers-in-law, Warren Detweiler & Linneaus Metz Godshall.

A visitation and memorial will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, PA 18964 from 1:00pm – 2:30 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:30 pm.

Inurnment will take place at the BGMC cemetery at the convenience of the family.
