Gerges G. Hanna, 72, of Northampton, Pennsylvania, formerly of Jersey City and Kearny, New Jersey, peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Luke’s University Hospital & Health Network in Bethlehem. After a long and difficult journey, Gerges was called from this earthly life and welcomed into the Heavenly Kingdom, where we pray he now rests peacefully in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Gerges was born in Cairo, Egypt, to the late Gerges Hanna and the late Lucy Labib (Eshak) Hanna. He graduated from high school in Egypt and went on to serve in the Egyptian military. Following his military service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Cairo University.
Gerges was a self-employed food spice manufacturer with the former Grand Mills, Inc. in Kearny, New Jersey, where he dedicated 28 years of his career before retiring in 2014.
He was a devoted member of St. Mary & St. Bishoy Coptic Orthodox Church in Allentown, Pennsylvania. His faith was a deeply important part of his life, and he loved attending church and being devoted to his church community.
Gerges was an avid reader with a deep curiosity and love of learning. He had a strong interest in industrial engineering and a particular passion for physics, science, mathematics, and chemistry. He enjoyed playing chess, listening to Arabic music, and studying history. He was an honest, hardworking, caring, and genuine man—straightforward and no-nonsense, yet deeply devoted to the people he loved.
Above all, Gerges was a loving and devoted family man. He loved his family more than anything and took great pride in his Egyptian heritage and his faith in God. Throughout his long battle with cancer, he showed remarkable strength and resilience. Even through the most difficult moments, he never gave up.
To his daughter, Mary, he was more than a father—he was her Baba, her protector, her strength, and someone she could always look up to. The lessons he taught, the memories they shared, and the love he gave will remain with her forever.
“Baba, I will miss you more than words can ever explain. My heart is broken that you are no longer here, but I know your love will always live inside of me. You will forever be a part of who I am, and I will carry you with me for the rest of my life.
I love you, Baba. May God grant your soul eternal rest, and may you rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. Until we meet again.”
Gerges is survived by his daughter, Mary Gerges Hanna of Easton, PA; his two sons, George Hanna and his wife, Aida, of Woodland Park, NJ, and Andrew G. Hanna of Northampton, PA; and his three beloved grandchildren, Isabella, Logan, and Luke Hanna.
He is also survived by his four siblings: Andrew Hanna and his wife, Irina, of Melbourne, FL; Magda Azer, of Torrance, CA; Naser Mansour and his wife, Sara, of Cedar Grove, NJ; and Rita Jacoup and her husband, Malak, of Hackensack, NJ.
In addition to his parents, Gerges was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Adel Azer.
A Divine Liturgy will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 8:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Bishoy Coptic Orthodox Church, 5042 Schantz Road, Allentown, Pennsylvania 18104, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. The service will be Livestreamed.
