Obituary

Gertrude "Trudy" E. Evans , 74, of Sellersville, formerly of Philadelphia, PA passed away on Thursday, January 14th, 2021 at her residence.

Trudy was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Marion and Eileen Grace (Long) Evans.

Trudy began her career as an LPN at Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia in 1965.  Following the year at Graduate Hospital, she was employed for 21 years at St. Christopher's Children's Hospital, Philadelphia. Trudy also owned and operated the former Salt & Pepper Catering, Philadelphia, for eight years and did private duty nursing.  She operated a pet sitting and house sitting business.  She volunteered at the Grand View Hospital Gift Shop, and drove patients for the American Cancer Society in the Sellersville and Souderton area.

Trudy was a former member of the Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce, served as President and Vice-President of Bethany Child Care Center, Philadelphia and was a Girl Scout leader in Upper Darby for many years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, crewel work and playing cards and Scrabble. Trudy was a faithful Christian all of her life and was a member of the Frederick Mennonite Church for many years.

Trudy was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many.  She loved caring for children and although she never had any of her own, she cared for many at work and in life.  She resided at Penn Gardens in Sellersville, PA for many years taking care of the residents and acting as some would say "the mayor" of Penn Gardens.  She was always available to help a friend in need and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by (her foster parents), Samuel & Donna Swansen of Gwynedd, PA; her brother, Evan Evans (Carol) of Philadelphia, PA; her foster sister, Jessica Swansen Bonelli (Joseph) of Denver, CO; her two foster brothers, Theodor A. Swansen (Nicole) of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Christopher C. Swansen (Laurie) of Downingtown, PA; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Tina Quiness of Philadelphia.

She was preceded in death by her three sisters, (twin) Erma Marian Evans, Eileen Anna Evans  and Deborah Irene Evans.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider performing an act of kindness for a friend or stranger as Trudy would have done.

A Memorial Service for Trudy Evans will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday July 31, 2021 at the  Frederick Mennonite Church, 526 Colonial Rd., Frederick , PA 19435 use Perkiomenville, PA 18074 for GPS.
