Obituary

Gladys (Moyer) Detweiler , 100, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Blooming Glen, PA peacefully passed to her Lord Jesus on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

She was the loving wife of the late Isaac "Ike" F. Detweiler for 29 years. Gladys was born in Blooming Glen, PA to the late R. Walter Moyer and the late Mabel (Myers) Moyer.

Gladys and her sisters, Marie and Helen, sang together in a trio at the Mennonite Young People's Meetings. She met her husband, Ike at one of these meetings and married him in June 1943. They were happily married until Ike's passing in 1972.

She graduated from Souderton Area High School, class of 1940.

After her husband's death, Gladys became a nurse's assistant at the Telford Lutheran Home. She later worked at Univest as a receptionist until her retirement. She sang with Zion Choral Society and also volunteered with Grand View Hospice for several years.

Gladys was a charter member of Calvary Church of Souderton and was a faithful choir director, Sunday school teacher, and church librarian. Later, she became an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harleysville, PA.

Gladys loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, homemaking, travel, and music.

Gladys maintained her strong faith in Jesus Christ throughout her life and sought to serve Him. Her love, humor, and spirit will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Gladys is survived by her son, Lowell Detweiler of New York, NY; her daughter, Andrea (Detweiler) Thompson & husband, Robert "Bob"; her three granddaughters, Leslie Strack & husband, Stephen of Allentown, PA, Sarah Kleinschmidt & husband, Kevin of Philadelphia, PA, Elizabeth Salley of Philadelphia, PA; her six great-grandchildren – Cate, Julia, Kara, Michael, Sylvia, and Ezra; and her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Moyer; her sister, Margaret Freed; her infant brother, Richard Moyer; and her two sisters, Marie Moyer and Helen Good.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 310 Covenant Lane, Harleysville, PA 19438 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am.
