Obituary

Gladys M. (Detweiler) Nice , 86, of Telford, PA; formerly of Souderton, PA went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Pennsburg Manor.

Gladys was the loving wife of Curtis F. Nice for 68 years. She was born in Sellersville, PA to the late Norman Detweiler and the late Sallie (Moyer) Detweiler.

Gladys graduated from Franconia Mennonite School. She worked as a looper for the former Hilltown Hosiery Mill in Quakertown, PA, as a clerk at Philadelphia area farmers markets for Paul Mininger and later for John Alderfer, and as a housekeeper and later as a dietary aide for the Souderton Mennonite Homes. She also served as a house cleaner for families in the local area.

Gladys was a former member of Rockhill Mennonite Church (now known as Ridgeline Community Church) and a former member of Hersteins Mennonite Church in Schwenksville, PA where she served as a Sunday school teacher and played the piano. She also served with Vacation Bible School and on the kitchen committee. She was a current member of Towamencin Mennonite Church where she served with the ladies sewing circle and the kitchen committee. She also served with Vacation Bible School and played the piano.

Gladys volunteered at the Souderton Mennonite Home and the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes.  In her later years, Gladys had a card ministry of sending greeting cards for various occasions to friends and family.

Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who had a servant's heart. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, and Sunday afternoons with guests. She also enjoyed family trips to visit relatives and winter trips to Sarasota, FL.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons, Dennis L. Nice of Telford, PA, Kevin D. Nice & wife, Lisa of Souderton, PA; her son-in-law, Greg Mills of Sarasota, FL; her six grandchildren, Joshua Miller & wife, Christine of Granger, IN, Stephanie Miller of Fishers, IN, Jennifer Miller of Fishers, IN, Justin Nice of Souderton, PA, Micah Nice & wife, Rachel of Red Hill, PA, Ashley Nice of Souderton, PA; her three step-grandsons, Keegan Mills & wife, Lindsey of Sarasota, FL, Justin Mills of Sarasota, FL, Brandon Mills of Sarasota, FL; her four great-grandchildren – Carter, Kendall, Emersyn, & Brynlee Miller; her two step-great-grandchildren – London & Riley Mills; her sister, Lorene M. Derstine of Deland, FL; and her two sisters-in-law, Suzanne Detweiler of Telford, PA, and Cora Y. Detweiler of Telford, PA.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Mills; her three brothers, Russell, Merrill, & Donald Detweiler; her son-in-law, Chip Miller; her brother-in-law, Joseph D. Derstine; and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Detweiler.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00 at Towamencin Mennonite Church, 1980 Sumneytown Pike, Kulpsville, PA 19443, followed by an informal visitation.

A private inurnment will take place at Towamencin Mennonite Cemetery.
