Gloria (Crouthamel) Santiago , 87, of Souderton, formerly of Franconia TWP entered into rest on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

Gloria was born in Souderton, PA to the late Edmund Merton Crouthamel and the late Mary (Hershey) Crouthamel.

She graduated from Souderton High School class of 1950.  Gloria graduated from Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts in 1954 and later went on to get her Master's degree at Temple University. She was employed as a Teacher for over 30 years, primarily within the Souderton Area School District, and a year at Abington Friends School. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Teachers Association.

Gloria embodied a life of "service before self", as an educator and caregiver to her family. She had a strong passion for providing education and opportunities to enrich the lives of her family. There was always a new idea and an offer to explore interests by engaging in extra-curricular activities, especially in the fine arts. Whenever an opportunity came up to include friends for meals, playtime or a special event, Gloria welcomed them to join in the fun and share the experience. Her compassion, selflessness, generosity, sincerity, and inclusiveness towards everyone she met was unparalleled. Her selfless attitude and concern for others was certainly her greatest attribute. She also poured much love and energy into ensuring her students had the best experience possible while learning.

Gloria loved the written word and was an avid reader of many genres, from history, poetry, how-to, cooking and many more. Within her high school yearbook, she was described as:

"Here is a lass who loves to read,

And does it well, with a great deal of speed."

She loved reading with her grandchildren, and rainy days spent inside reading extra stories were the best days. Baking was a fun hobby she enjoyed sharing with her grandchildren, and cookies were a frequent favorite.

She is survived by her son, Alexander C. Santiago and his wife Lisa of Souderton, PA; her grandson, Reid A. Santiago and her granddaughter, Randilyne Santiago, both of Telford, PA.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Shuler.

Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
