Henry Halteman Landis was the second of four children born to John and Sallie Landis of Souderton RD, PA.  He was born on June 28, 1925 and went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2020 at age 95.

Henry attended the Skippack Creek one-room school house near Elroy not far from his childhood home.  He attended Souderton Area High School.

Henry joined the Navy during World War II as a non-combatant and served for 2 ½ years.  He drove ambulance and because he spoke Pennsylvania Dutch, he was assigned to work with German prisoners of war.

Henry met Catherine Rice in Elroy, PA, and they were married on April 12, 1947 at Zion Mennonite Church in Souderton, PA.  They bought their first home on East Broad Street, Souderton.

Henry accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and faithfully lived out the commitment throughout his life.

Three daughters and one son were born to Henry and Catherine: Carole Ann, Kathleen, Sally Ann and Robert.  Henry and Catherine and their family were active at Souderton Mennonite Church, and they made it a priority to send their children to Christian schools.

In 1962 they moved to Montgomery Avenue, Souderton, PA where they lived until 1995 when they moved to an apartment at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

Henry worked for his father making sausage and scrapple in the family business and taking a variety of country fresh meats and cheese to Ridge Avenue Farmer's Market in Philadelphia each week.  Later in life Henry took courier jobs with Univest and then with Richter's Drafting & Supply Co.

Henry and Catherine were committed to family and loved when grandchildren joined the family.  On many occasions they planned fun, overnight family outings which everyone enjoyed and kept family relationships close.  They took many trips to Colorado to visit their daughter and family.

Henry loved to read and had much knowledge about many different subjects.  However, he expressed a deep humility by asking questions and learning from others.  Henry was loved by all who knew him and was a man of integrity who treated everyone with respect.  Henry kept in good physical condition by eating well and walking every day.  His example of reading his Bible and praying with Catherine is a picture that his children will always cherish, and his life has influenced each of them to be devoted followers of Christ as well.  Henry will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his love for learning and his respect and kindness to others.

Henry loved birds, flowers and the beauty of nature.  His hobbies were fishing and hunting.  His brother-in-law, Henry Nyce, was his fishing buddy, and they enjoyed fishing at Green Lane Reservoir and Nockamixon State Park as well as fishing for shad on the Delaware.  The best fishing was in Canada and their two families spent exciting weeks there together.  Henry also enjoyed a week of deer hunting every winter in Snyder County with his brother-in-law and other hunters.  We could count on him almost always returning home with a deer.

Henry and Catherine enjoyed traveling. They accepted invitations to visit friends they had learned to know from all over the world, and in some cases attended or participated in their wedding.  Some of their travels included the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Italy, Greece, and Syria.

His Children: daughter Carole Stutzman of Lakewood, CO; daughter Kathleen Landis and her husband Earl of Harleysville, daughter Sally Bishop and her husband, Craig of Harleysville; and son, Robert Landis of Telford.

Twelve Grandchildren:  Jason Stutzman, Jeffrey Stutzman, Rhonda Freed, Philip Landis, Eric Landis, Matthew Bishop, Angela Schrader, Charity Baxter, Daniel Landis, Rachelle Cunningham, Larissa Knechel, and Nathan Landis

Seventeen Great-Grandchildren:  Natalie, Kate, Eliana, Graham, Conrad, Jensen, Savannah, Ryder, Myra, Jude, Arabella, Lila, Devon, Alexa, Jude, Siena, and Jamie. One sister, Verna Delp; Souderton, PA.

He was proceeded in death by:  his wife, Catherine in 2019, his parents, John and Sallie Landis, his brother, Paul Landis, his son-in-law Thomas Stutzman, his sister, Grace Landis and his brother-in-law, Harley Delp.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will take place at Souderton Mennonite Church Cemetery.
