Howard D. Freed , 88, of Souderton, formerly of Harleysville, PA entered into rest on Sunday, August 8th, 2021 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

He was the loving husband of the late Cleta (Moyer) Freed for 57 years. Howard was born in Souderton, PA to the late Howard H. and Hannah (Derstein) Freed.

Following high school graduation at Souderton High School in 1951, Howard went into 1W service for 2 years in Rhode Island.

Howard worked at Keller's Creamery, Harleysville, PA for a time before working as a Truck Driver for Hatfield Quality Meats for 35 years.  He also spent many years working Saturdays at a market stand in Wayne for Godshall & Delp Meats.

He was a member of Salford Mennonite Church where he served as a Trustee, Boys Club Leader and MYF advisor.

Howard enjoyed family vacations, including many years of camping at Spruce Lake Retreat and beach trips.  He was a willing supervisor of all his children's and grandchildren's home improvement projects, pitching in as needed.  After retirement, he enjoyed groundskeeping as a volunteer at Dock Mennonite Academy and traveling with his wife.  His many woodworking projects were given to family and also donated to charitable auctions.  He spent enjoyable winters in Florida, becoming proficient at competitive shuffleboard.

He is survived by his two sons, Ronald D. Freed and wife Debra of Souderton, and Daniel M.  Freed his wife Donna of Souderton, his daughter, Kathy S. Martin and husband Don of Lansdale;  his 9 grandchildren, Andrew, Amy, Brett, Adam, Lance, Clinton, Scott, Ryan and Krista. 13 great grandchildren, Cassidy, Sadie, Luke, Greg, Jeff, Hannah, Eli, Micah, Morgan, Kynlee, Kaylee, Alayna and Owen; and his brother-in-law, Merrill Moyer, of Souderton, PA.

In addition to his wife Cleta, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Harvey Freed.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 14th, 2021 at the Salford Mennonite Church, 480

Groff's Mill Road, Harleysville, PA. 19438 from 10:00 to 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.  Burial will be in the adjoining church Cemetery.
