Jacob Russell "Russ" Gehman , 92, of Souderton, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Bechtelsville and Canadensis, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 27, 2026, at St. Luke's Grand View Hospital in Sellersville.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Moyer) Gehman, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. Born in Bally, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Jacob H. Gehman and the late Katie (Clemmer) Gehman.

Russ was a 1952 graduate of Boyertown High School. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. His career included working on dairy farms for Abram Ehst in Bally and Dwight Moyer in Oley; serving in I-W service as an aide at a mental hospital in Brattleboro, Vermont; and working as a mechanic for the former Kehs Brothers in Bally. He also worked as a deliveryman for Bond Bread in Easton and Longacre's Modern Dairy Inc. in Barto, where he also drove a school bus for the Boyertown School District. Later, he was employed as a woodworker at Knoll Furniture in East Greenville for over 17 years. He concluded his working years in food service and maintenance at Spruce Lake Retreat in Canadensis, retiring in June 2000, after which he again drove a school bus for the Boyertown School District.

In his younger years, Russ attended Bally Mennonite Church and was later a member of Easton Mennonite Church, where he served as a trustee and participated in the planting of the church. He was a devoted member of Boyertown Mennonite Church, now known as 2/42 Community Church, where he faithfully served as an elder, trustee, Sunday school teacher, and Sunday school superintendent. He was also a member of the Franconia Mennonite Camp Association in Canadensis.

Russ volunteered his time with Mennonite Disaster Service and Spruce Lake Retreat, reflecting his lifelong commitment to serving others. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, reading the Bible and Christian literature, and cheering on the Phillies. He especially treasured time spent with family and friends—whether playing games, completing jigsaw puzzles, traveling, or camping together.

He will be remembered as a hardworking, generous, and gentle man with a kind heart, unwavering honesty, and a wonderful sense of humor.

Russ is survived by his four children: Dennis D. Gehman and his wife, Glenda, of Telford; Dawn L. Lantz and her husband, James "Herb," of Canadensis; David S. Gehman and his wife, Joanne, of Bechtelsville; and Donna E. Gehman of Colmar; as well as his daughter-in-law, Tracy L. Hess and her husband, Scott, of Birdsboro. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren—Elijah, Aaron, Kaela, Teesha, Jordan, Chynna, Austin, Logan, Kendra, Reuben, Danielle, Jesse, Hilary, Serena, Angel, and Ruby—and 29 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Douglas R. Gehman; his granddaughter, Kiera B. Lantz; three sisters, Anna, Orpha, and Miriam Gehman; and two brothers, Mark and Luke Gehman.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton. A second viewing will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Boyertown Mennonite Church (2/42 Community Church), 275 Mill Street, Boyertown, PA 19512 followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be in the Boyertown Mennonite Cemetery.
