Janet A.
Martin
Oct 23, 1932 — May 10, 2023
Janet A. Martin , 90, of Lansdale Pa, went to be with the Lord Wednesday afternoon, May 10.
Born October 23, 1932 in Shippensburg, PA, she was the first child of seven to the late Chester and Valera (Lehman) Martin.
Janet graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1950 and from Shippensburg University in 1954. She taught business classes at Christopher Dock High School in its beginning years. She taught at North Penn High School, earned her Master's in English at The University of Pennsylvania, and continued sharing her love of English and literature with students until retirement.
Her favorite times involved her family, reading books, entertaining guests, watching birds, vacationing at Winter Harbor, ME, and enjoying her community at Perkasie Mennonite Church. She frequently came to visit with new books in hand to give as gifts to her nieces and nephews. Many people attribute their love of reading to Janet's encouragement.
Janet is survived by her lifelong friend, Pearl Schrack of Lansdale, and her sisters Jean Dickerson (husband Carl) of Pasadena CA and Joan Nolt of Chambersburg, PA, as well as her brothers, Jerry Martin (wife Betty) of Narvon, PA, and Jason Martin (wife Leora) of York, PA, and sister-in-law, Martha Martin of Glen Mills, PA.
In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her brother Jay Martin, sister Julia Martin, and brother-in-law, Paul Nolt.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Monday, May 22, at Perkasie Mennonite Church, 320 W. Chestnut Street, Perkasie, PA. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Perkasie Mennonite Church, 320 W. Chestnut Street, Perkasie, PA 18944.
