Jean Gehman Derstine
, 81, of Harleysville, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at The Birches at Arbour Square in Harleysville.
Born in Sellersville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clayton A. Derstine and the late Sarah L. (Gehman) Derstine.
Jean worked at the Sunlight Shop in Souderton for 10 years before spending 35 years in the meat department at Landis Supermarket in Telford retiring in 2004.
A lifelong member of Haycock Mennonite Church, she faithfully served in various roles, including as a Sunday School teacher.
Jean enjoyed traveling with friends on chartered bus trips and loved cooking for those she cared about. She lovingly made baby afghans for many of her nieces and nephews. Jean was also the primary caregiver for her brother, Herman, for many years, and she treasured their outings to the Keystone Diner. She also enjoyed her trips to Lancaster County.
She is survived by her three sisters: Jane and her husband, Curtis Derstine, of Harleysville; Marie and her husband, David Reinford, of Harleysville; and Eileen and her husband, Jonathan Schmidt, of Quakertown. She is also survived by her brother, Herman Derstine, of Harleysville; and her brother-in-law, Laverne Moyer, of Watsontown, PA.
Jean was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Moyer and Alice Hackman Yoder; her brothers, Henry and Roy Derstine; and her brother-in-laws, James Hackman and Carl Yoder.
Viewings will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m., and again on Thursday from 10:00am to 11:00am at Indian Creek Mennonite Church, 637 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA 18969.
A funeral service will follow on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Interment will take place at Franconia Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jean's memory to Haycock Mennonite Church, 1639 Mission Road, Quakertown, PA 18951.
