Joan Elizabeth (McAleer) Scandlin , 88, of Lansdale, PA; formerly of North Wales, PA went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Dock Woods Community.

She was the loving wife of the late Merrill Theodore Scandlin for 61 years. Joan was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late John McAleer and the late Margaret McAleer, but was raised by her paternal grandmother, Jennifer McAleer.

She graduated from Little Flower High School in Philadelphia, PA, class of 1952. Joan was employed as a secretary for the former Bell Telephone in Philadelphia, PA. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Joan was passionate about her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren whom she was affectionately known as "Mom-Mom". Her main love in life was her husband; they are now eternally inseparable, as they were in life. She enjoyed annual family trips to Wildwood, NJ and family Christmas gatherings. Joan was a lover of animals especially her Maltese dog, Pookie. In addition, she loved watching the cardinals and feeding the squirrels, who would frequent her porch. Joan's hobbies included: collecting dolls, Lenox grinches, shopping, and reading. She was always busy around the house and enjoyed researching medical knowledge.

Joan was a kind, gentle, supportive, sassy woman who had a good sense of humor.

She is survived by her two sons, John James Scandlin & wife, Jacquelyn "Jackie" of Mullica Hill, NJ, Theodore "Ted" Charles Scandlin & wife, Karin of Telford, PA; her three daughters, Donna Marie Price & husband, Samuel of New Port Richey, FL, Patricia "Patty" Anne Borawski & husband, Joseph of Hatfield, PA, Linda Joan Cantwell of Lakewood, NJ; her 18 grandchildren – Bruce Scandlin & wife, Lisa of Swedesboro, NJ, Nicole Scirrotto & husband, Anthony of West Deptford, NJ, Adrienne Hunt & husband, Kevin of Warminster, PA, Jeremy Scandlin & wife, Jackie of Perkasie, PA, Jenelle Gardler & husband, James of Mount Royal, NJ, Sam Price & wife, Brittni of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Jesse Scandlin & companion, Jaime Simpson of Schwenksville, PA, Kristin Price of Philadelphia, PA, Amanda Cantwell of Lakewood, NJ, Daniel J. Brady of Hatfield, PA, Ronald Cantwell of Lakewood, NJ, Theodore "Teddy" Price & companion, Melanie Liston of Hatfield, PA, Caitlyn Price & companion, Rick Kromdyk of Quakertown, PA, Sean Price of Quakertown, PA, Dylan Borawski of Philadelphia, PA, Anthony Price & companion, Victoria Franco of Tuscon, AZ, Jonathan Cantwell & companion, Brook Stroecker of Pennsburg, PA, and Dean Borawski of Hatfield, PA; her 29 great-grandchildren; her eight great-great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Nancy Maragioglio of Port Orange, FL, Dolores MacMurray & husband, Robert of Grants Pass, OR; and her three half-sisters, Cheryl Wilson of Kansas City, MO, Sandra Salstrom, and Linda Pocoroba.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by her two grandsons, Derek Brady & Jason Scandlin and her two brothers, John & David McAleer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964.

A private inurnment will take place at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
