John Willis Hunsberger , 84, of Quakertown, PA; formerly of Plumsteadville, PA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center.
John was the loving husband of the late Marcia K. (Fretz) Hunsberger for 20 years. He was born in Doylestown, PA to the late Willis Hunsberger and the late Anna Mae (Umstead) Hunsberger.
John graduated from Central Bucks West High School in Doylestown, PA, Class of 1958. He then attended Bucks County Community College.
As a young man John worked on the family farm in Plumsteadville, PA and continued the operation of the family farm throughout his lifetime. During the summers, he worked for the local Township mowing the road banks. He worked part time doing tax preparations for various local farmers and friends and continued this service throughout his lifetime. John worked for Hurst Performance in Warminster Township for 5 years, prior to employment as a truck driver for the former Roadway Express Corp. (later known as YRC Freight) in Line Lexington, PA. John retired from Roadway Corp. after 45 years, at the age of 77.
John was a former member of the Future Farmers of America and a former member of the Bucks County 4-H Club. He was an attendee of Bethel Baptist Church in Sellersville, PA.
John maintained the Enrolled Agent credential for tax preparers. He was an avid reader of all things farm related and historical. He enjoyed farming, genealogy, and the local history of Plumstead Township. He also enjoyed 2-cylinder John Deere tractors and traveling to tractor events and historical places.
John was a hardworking, loyal, generous, and humble man.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda L. Hartley & husband, Paul of Pennsburg, PA; his grandchildren, Nathaniel Hartley, and Alyssa Hartley of Pennsburg, PA; his step-daughters, Wendy Bean & husband, Jeff of Boyertown, PA, and Michele L. Norton of Norristown, PA; and his several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Clyde & Carl Hunsberger.
A viewing will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, PA 18964 from 9:30 am - 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.
Burial will take place at Deep Run West Mennonite Cemetery immediately after the service.
