John "Jack" Kelso, Sr. , 86, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Telford, PA, Doylestown, PA, & Beach Haven, NJ went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
He was the loving husband of Marsha (Duff) Kelso for 54 years. John was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Isaac Kelso, Jr. and the late Emma R. (Dickel) Kelso.
He graduated from Souderton Area High School, class of 1954. John attended Penn State College, Mont Alto and later Penn State College, Main Campus. He also attended La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA.
After Penn State, John served in the United States Army with the 71st Air Defense Artillery Regiment. He was employed as a sales manager for Sears Roebuck Company in Abington, PA for 34 years. John then worked as a school bus driver for the Central Bucks School District for 17 years.
He was a member of the Kynett United Methodist Church of Beach Haven NJ where he served as trustee, as a choir member, on the finance committee, on the administrative counsel, and for over 10 years he and his wife ran the annual church yard sales.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, golfing, and bowling with his wife in a mixed bowling league in Chalfont, PA. He also enjoyed watching Penn State wrestling and football and was a big fan of the Philadelphia sports teams. John was a supporter of the National Wildlife Federation and loved listening to classic Country & Western music. In his younger years, he played baseball and football. John coached football at Lenape Valley Recreational Council and coached baseball at Doylestown Athletic Association.
He was a very generous man who had a good sense of humor, a love of nature, and was well-liked by everyone he met. John was a devoted family man who especially loved spending time with his grandchildren at the shore house.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, John "JJ" Kelso, Jr. & wife, Laurie of Doylestown, PA, D. Andrew "Andy" Kelso & wife, Therese of Suwanee, GA; his six grandchildren – Molly, Georgia, Graham, Jonathan, Natalie, & Sarah; his sister, Suzanne Albright of Hamilton Square, NJ; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather L. Kelso and his brother-in-law, Robert Albright, Sr.
A graveside service will be held at a later date and time at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, Pennsylvania 18940. Please check back at the end of April for details.
Inurnment will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
