John “Jack” Frank Hathaway, 91, of Telford, Pennsylvania, formerly of Montgomery Township, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Lutheran Community at Telford.
He was the loving husband of Sheila (Walker) Purpura. Jack was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Frank Edward Hathaway and the late Frances Bertha (Longaker) Hathaway.
Jack attended Northeast High School in Philadelphia and later graduated from Philco Technical School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Quartermaster Supply Specialist. Following his military service, Jack worked as a computer maintenance technician for the former Univac Corporation, now known as Unisys, in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. Earlier in his career, he worked as a delivery milkman in Philadelphia.
Jack was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and a
man who valued hard work, honesty, and integrity, Jack was devoted to his family and loved ones. He had many interests and enjoyed a full and active life. He loved bowling, collecting trains, camping, and traveling. Over his lifetime, some of his greatest adventures were traveling by trailer and visiting 49 states. He also enjoyed bird watching, particularly watching for hawks. Jack had a special love for animals, especially cats, and cherished his beloved cat, Reggie.
Jack will be remembered as a hardworking, honest, loving man of integrity and as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, step-father, step-grandfather, and step-great-grandfather. His kindness, warmth, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Sheila, Jack is survived by his daughter, Lynne Anne Hathaway of Harleysville, PA; three grandchildren; his step-son, Bruce Purpura and his wife, Camille, of Berlin, MD; his two step-daughters, Denise Schneer and her husband, Kenny, of Allentown, PA, and Karen Purpura of Richfield Park, NJ; six step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his son, John Frank Hathaway, Jr.; and his three sisters, Ruth Edna Hathaway, Shirley Carol Hathaway, and Frances Evelyn Nice.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Community Chapel, 235 N. Washington St., Telford, Pennsylvania 18969.
