John Allen Mast , 85, of Lederach, PA passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, after a short stay at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest.

He was born in Hartly, DE, to the late Clarence D. Mast and the late Sylvia (Byler) Mast and was the loving husband of Lois (Hurst) Mast for 28 years.

John served in 1-W at Norristown State Hospital. He then worked as a hired man for the former Marple Family Farm in Worcester, PA, and later as a milk delivery man for the former Martin Century Farms in Upper Gwynedd, PA. Leaning on his farming roots, he then began working as an equipment operator for the former John H. Mack Excavation in Perkiomenville, PA. John had an entrepreneurial spirit, which led him to form John A. Mast Excavating in Lederach, PA. Later he was a founding partner of R&M Contractors, Inc., along with Leonard C. Ruth, in Harleysville, PA. John continued to expand his business presence in the community and founded Mast Contractors, Inc., in Harleysville, PA. He worked as a contractor for over 30 years throughout his career. After retirement, he continued his love for construction through development of various real estate projects and also consulted for H. Hassan Builders in Montgomeryville, PA.

John was a member of Christian Business Men's Committee and participated in the Franconia-Lancaster Choral Singers for many years. John served on the board of the Laurelville Christian Retreat Center in Mt. Pleasant, PA. He was a former member of Methacton Mennonite Church where he served in various leadership and worship positions, was a church planter for Pottstown Mennonite Church and was a current member of the Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem where he served as a trustee.

John was a coach for the Salford-Methacton Women's Softball Team. He enjoyed golf, hunting, snowmobiling, traveling, river boat trips, losing to his sons at ping pong, playing the guitar and the spoons, and speaking Pennsylvania Dutch. John also enjoyed watching sports, especially Phillies' and Yankee's baseball and Jordan Spieth. He loved projects and was always doing something. One of John's favorite sayings was: "Do Something."

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. John was a hardworking, generous, and caring man who was mechanically inclined and had a passion for helping others.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his former wife, Mildred R. Davis of Gilbertsville, PA; his four sons, John Wayne Mast & wife, Greta of Telford, PA, Keith Allen Mast & companion, Becky Geiger of Brevard, NC, Michael Scott Mast & wife, Cynthia of Harleysville, PA, Richard C. Mast & wife, Christine of Harleysville, PA; his two step-daughters, Sharon Perkins & husband, Bart of Louisville, KY, Linda Hill & husband, Christopher of Grantham, NH; his 16 grandchildren – John Aaron, Ashley Lyn, James Anthony, Travis Jon, Rachael E., Katelyn M., Rebecca, Alexander, Adam, Abigail, Andrew, Diana, Alexander, Anna, Alyssa, Amanda; his ten great-grandchildren – Claire, Sophia, Henry, Nadiya, Isaac, Silas, Wyatt, Claire, Lucy, and Hazel; and his brother, Dr. Clarence Mast & wife, Kathy of Tunkhannock, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his seven siblings, Lawrence Mast, Lydia Mast, Irene Kauffman, Daniel Mast, Lillie Simmons, Dr. William Mast, Robert Mast, and his stepson, Jeffrey Krause.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Advent Lutheran Church, 470 Landis Road, Harleysville, PA 19438 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm.
