John R. Smith, 83, of Hatfield, Pennsylvania, formerly of Duncannon, Lansdale, and Bellwood, Pennsylvania, entered into rest on Monday, September 14, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the devoted husband of Gladys (Haas) Smith, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. John was born in Bellwood, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles Kenneth Smith and the late Mary Clark (McAlpine) Smith.

John was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School, Bellwood, Pennsylvania, Class of 1962.

Throughout his working life, John was employed as a steelworker with the former Precision Tube in North Wales, Pennsylvania, retiring in the early 2000s as a line foreman. While working at Precision Tube, he also worked part-time as a security guard at North Penn Hospital and at DataCard in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania.

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserves during the Vietnam Era, where he received a Commemorative Medal and Certificate of Appreciation.

John enjoyed fishing along the Susquehanna River, hunting, and cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed watching westerns on television. A hardworking man with a wonderful sense of humor, John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured his family above all else. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kindness, humor, and the love he shared with those around him.

In addition to his wife, Gladys, John is survived by his two daughters, Sherrie Ann Myers and her husband, Kevin, of Hatfield, PA, and Stacy Lynn Lewis and her husband, Mark, of Lansdale, PA; his grandchildren, Tyler Smith, of Ambler, PA, Christopher Smith and his companion, Samantha, of Quakertown, PA, and Jessica Hager and her husband, Riley, of Sellersville, PA; his great-grandchildren, CJ Smith, of Quakertown, PA, and Quinn Hager, of Sellersville, PA.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Audrey McClellan and Patricia Franks, and his brother, James “Jim” Smith.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
