Jose Ramon Prieres ,"Papi," as he was affectionately called by many, 91, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Elmhurst, NY passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

He was born in Guantanamo, Cuba to the late Ramon Prieres and the late Lillia (Hernandez) Prieres.

In Cuba, Jose ran a local cafe in Guantanamo, Cuba. In 1965, he came to America and for the next 28 years, he worked as a butcher for a family owned business, Pioneer Supermarkets, throughout the New York City's 5 boroughs.

Jose was a member of the UFCW Local 174 Union. He was an attender of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Hatfield, PA.

Jose loved coffee and his cats. He enjoyed traveling, watching TV & WWF, playing the lottery, politics, and listening to the radio.

Jose was a hardworking and caring man who was devoted to his family, a bit of a jokester, and had a very good sense of humor.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the staff at the Souderton Mennonite Homes for their loving care and for going above and beyond to make it special for him.

He is survived by his daughter, Alina Reynolds & husband, Martin of Souderton, PA; his son, Joseph Prieres & wife, Denise of Paterson, NJ; and his three grandchildren – Matthew, Christian, & Hannah.

In addition to his parents, Jose was preceded in death by his brother, Jorge Prieres.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, PA  18964 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 12:30 pm at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, Pennsylvania 19440. The services will be livestreamed.

Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Souderton.

After the burial all are welcome to join the family at the North Bound restaurant for food and fellowship.
