Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Michael Walsh , 80, of Harleysville, PA; formerly of Souderton and Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Lankenau Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends.

He was the devoted husband of his high school sweetheart, Janet (Copple) Walsh, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, Joe was the son of the late Joseph Michael Walsh, Sr. and the late Maryanne (Friel) Walsh.

Joe graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1963 and attended La Salle College, where he was part of the Class of 1970. Throughout his career, he held several leadership roles. He worked as a manager at Leeds & Northrup in North Wales, and later as director of operations at Carlon Thyrocon in Telford. He continued in similar roles at CMS Gilbreth Packaging Systems in Croydon, before eventually serving as director of operations at Severn Trent Services in Colmar, where he worked until his retirement in 2011.

He volunteered his time with organizations such as Montgomery County Head Start in Green Lane and Ella's Retreat in Wyndmoor. He was also a former member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Philadelphia, where he once served as an altar boy.

Joe's interests were wide-ranging and reflected his love for life. He enjoyed fishing, reading, following the Phillies, and talking politics. He was active for many years, playing basketball, racquetball, and softball, and he loved bike rides and traveling. Known to appreciate good conversation over a cigar and a glass of scotch, Joe was a steady, thoughtful presence with a good sense of humor. Affectionately called "Joey Mags," he was known for his insistence on picking up the check—a gesture that spoke to his generosity and character.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Christine Walsh of North Beach, MD; his sons, Joseph James Walsh and his wife, Audrey of Wyndmoor, PA, and Jason Walsh and his wife, Sujatha of Berkeley, CA. He was a proud grandfather to Emily, Ella, Colin, and Sathya. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Grace Erpel of North Wales, PA, Susanne Cleary and her husband, Fran of Cheltenham, PA, and Madeleine Wood and her husband, James of Cape May, NJ as well as his brother-in-law, John Monahan of Palmyra, NJ.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Monahan and Theresa Morris; and his brother-in-law, George Morris.

A visitation will take place on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 East Broad Street, Souderton, PA, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am. The service will be Livestreamed.
