Julia (Smakula) Detweil er, 96, of Weatherly, Pennsylvania; formerly of Hilltown, PA entered into rest on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at her residence.

She was the loving wife of the late William Lester Detweiler for 72 years. Julia was born in Perkasie, PA to the late Michael Smakula and the late Sophia (Kotko) Smakula.

Julia attended Sell-Perk High School. She was employed as a seamstress at the former Royal Pants Factory. Afterwards, she worked as an assembler for Accu-Sort Systems of Telford, PA for several years.

Julia was a devoted member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church for over forty years.

Throughout her life, Julia enjoyed gardening in her vegetable garden and tending to her fruit trees, including peach, plumb and cherry trees. She was known to enjoy canning various foods and sharing them with her family and friends. Julia also enjoyed word search puzzles and completing large jigsaw puzzles with her husband and family. During her free time, Julia traveled with her husband every year. Often times, she could be found delivering flowers and gifts to those that were less fortunate while still finding time volunteering at her church in the form of cooking, cleaning and serving at luncheons and dinners.

Julia was a generous, kind, sincere, strong willed, and dependable lady who always wanted to help others in any way she could. She was happiest when she was helping those around her.  Although she was small, she had a large impact on those whose lives she was a part of.

Julia is survived by her four Nieces, Deborah Hetherington of Weatherly, PA, Ethel Buzdigon of Bedminster, PA, Julia Ryan of Silverdale, PA, & Donna Buzdigon of Bucks County, PA; her Nephew, Scott Buzdigon of Quakertown, PA; her 11 great-nieces & great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces & great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Smakula, Mother, Sophia Smakula, Husband, William Lester Detweiler, her brothers, John Smakula, Wasley Smakula, and Harold Smakula, her sisters, Mary Walters, Laura Smakula, Florence Smakula, and Theresa Nalepa, her nephews, Michael Smakula, David Smakula, and John Smakula, her great-neice, Julia Smith, and two great-nephews, Scott Smakula, and William Hetherington.

Burial will take place at St. Peter's Union Cemetery, 1530 Augsburg Drive, Hilltown, PA 18927 on June 15th, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
