Karen Christina (Johansen) Dry , 82, of Green Lane, PA; formerly of Boyertown went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem, PA.

She was the loving wife of the late Richard David Dry for 40 years. Karen was born in Upper Darby, PA to the late John E. Johansen and the late Georgette (Longacre) Johansen.

Karen graduated from Upper Darby High School, class of 1956. She joined the Navy in the later part of 1956, and had an honorable discharge in 1958 before her daughter, Kay was born. She continued her education at Allan Hancock College, class of 1987. Karen worked for the Air Force civil service at Willow Grove Naval Air Station, Willow Grove, PA; and lastly at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, CA as Quality Control for the Shuttle Program until her retirement in the late nineties.

She was involved with the Girl Scouts and was even at the Girl Scout Chalet in Adelboden, Switzerland. Karen was also involved with the Red Hats.

Growing up, Karen was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Upper Darby, PA, and was also a member of the choir. She was a member of the Eastern Star in PA, and in Germany.

While Karen lived in Upper Darby with her parents during her adult life, she always worked with her mom on a veggie garden and a flower garden. With her father she spent time on his boat and attended events for the Coast Guard Auxiliary, they also shared a love for stamp collecting. Karen enjoyed greeting the Tall Ships into Philadelphia in 1976 while her father John E Johansen was in his boat guarding them in.

Karen enjoyed making jewelry with her mother, sister and then with her husband Richard and daughter Kay. While in California they owned the Karadice Store in Solvang. She also spent time going to Quartzsite, Arizona with their jewelry from Karadice. Karen was a member of the Orcutt Mineral Society of Orcutt, CA. She and Richard spent a lot of time in the mountains of California searching for rocks and adding to their collection.

They helped sponsor a race car for the Sheridan Family at the Santa Maria Race Track. They were involved in a neighborhood watch for Plantation Village, Bradenton, FL, the Fun Band in Plantation Village, served on the Board of Directors at Plantation Village.  Being a military family, she spent time in Pensacola, Fl., Panama Canal Zone, Bullville, NY, Upper Darby, PA, Frankfort, Germany (While here in Germany did a lot of traveling, Holland, Brussels, Austria, Switzerland, France, Berlin and Belgium) back to Upper Darby, PA and then Willow Grove, PA, Lompoc, CA, Bradenton, FL then in 2015 moved to Green Lane, PA to be with her daughter Kay. During this time, she and Richard became the owner of Pebbles, Kay's cat. Pebbles died of missing Karen on July 4, 2021. Late 2015 Karen and Richard moved into the Birches of Harleysville, PA. After Richard, her husband, died in 2016, she continued to live there until January 2017 when she moved to Walnut Woods in Boyertown, PA. While there she was an ambassador. She loved doing that and meeting with all the new residents. She loved attending church services at Finland Mennonite Church. She loved spending time with family and was a social butterfly.

She is survived by: Daughter, Kay Carolyn Davis and husband Bill of Green Lane, PA; Stepdaughter, Sherrie Prikockis and husband Ronald of Augusta, MT; Stepson, Richard Dry Jr. and wife Denise of Newmanstown, PA; her niece Christina Stolley and her husband Jonathan, of Ellsworth, Maine; her nephew Charles Smith and his wife of Maine.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Kit Carson Price, and then her husband Richard David Dry, Sister, Barbara Smith-Todaro

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 beginning at 12:00 noon at Finland Mennonite Church, 1750 Ziegler Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073. Friends may meet with the family from 11:00am until time of service.

A luncheon will take place at the church where friends and family can continue sharing their memories of Karen with each other.
