Leon K. Derstine , 74, of Pennsburg, PA; formerly of Hatfield, PA went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospice House.

He was the loving husband of Elaine C. (Bergey) Derstine for 48 years. Leon was born in Sellersville, PA to the late Samuel N. Derstine and the late Alma D. (Kulp) Derstine.

He graduated from Christopher Dock High School, class of 1964. Leon began working as a butcher for his family business, "Sam Derstine Meats" at the Chester Farmer's Market. Leon then worked as painter for the former self-employed painter, Linford Derstine, of Harleysville. He served with Voluntary Service as an orderly at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, OR. Leon worked as a meat cutter for the former T. M. Landis in Mainland, PA and then for Hatfield Quality Meats. After retiring from Hatfield Quality Meats, he worked for Landis Supermarket in Telford & Vernfield.

Leon was a former member of Methacton Mennonite Church in Fairview Village where he served as a song leader, youth leader, and on the church council. He was a current member of Covenant Community Fellowship in Lansdale where he served as a worship ministry director, an elder, youth leader, and on the worship team.

Leon loved spending time with his family and attending his grandkids' events. He loved music, especially singing and listening to Christian music. Leon enjoyed golf, church league softball, bowling, running, walking, traveling, and reading.

He was a man of integrity and deep faith. Leon was hardworking, loyal, gentle, determined, devoted, kind, and compassionate. He had a positive attitude, a good sense of humor, and always had a smile on his face.

In addition to his wife, Leon is survived by his three children, Cheryl L. Kulp & husband, Jason of Barto, PA, Jeffrey K. Derstine & wife, Rebecca of Barto, PA, & Anita G. Livezey & husband, Mark of Red Hill, PA; his five grandchildren – Caleb, Chase, Julia, Andrew, & Matthew; his sister, Emilie K. Walson & husband, Robert of Indianapolis, IN; his two brothers, Harley K. Derstine & wife, Dolores of Sellersville, PA & Rodney K. Derstine & wife, Rachel of Philadelphia, PA; and his sister-in-law, Susan Brenneman & husband, Archie Vomachka of Lansdale, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Galen K. Derstine.

Viewings will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 9:30 am – 10:15 am at Finland Mennonite Church, 1750 Ziegler Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 PROMPTLY at 10:30 am at Finland Mennonite Church, 1750 Ziegler Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073.
