Obituary

Leon Z. Detwiler , 69, of Telford, PA went home peacefully and unexpectedly to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at his residence.

He was the loving husband of Ruth M. (Janzen) Detwiler for 36 years. Leon was born in Sellersville, PA to the late Stanley F. Detwiler and the late Dorothy (Ziegler) Detwiler.

Leon grew up on the Detwiler family farm, and spent time working alongside his dad at the Ridge Ave. Market in Philadelphia. He was always proud that even though he skipped school on Fridays to go, he still had excellent grades. Leon graduated from Souderton High School in 1971.

Leon was a jack of many trades, with his favorites being Husband, Dad, and Pop-Pop. He was a hobby auctioneer, and a skilled butcher, but spent the majority of his life as a farmer. In his early adult years, he took over the Detwiler family farm, married the love of his life, and together they started a family. Leon's family meant the world to him, and he treasured the time that he spent with them. He was blessed immensely by his two granddaughters, and the joy on his face was palpable when he spent time with, or talked about them.

He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and has many trophies to prove it. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, both as a child and then with his own family. He went on many hunting trips, a favorite being his and Ruth's honeymoon trip to Newfoundland, Canada.

Leon had a remarkable sense of humor. He loved to make you laugh, and was quick to add a witty remark, or a loving tease. If you told him: "I have to run to the store" He'd reply "it's pretty far, you better drive." Then, he would grin and you knew he just wanted to make you smile.

In his later years, Leon became more immobile, but never gave up. He made an effort to continue doing things he loved. Trips to Lancaster County PA, breakfasts with various friends, and continuing his work on the farm with his son, Noah. Leon was an excellent cook, and his friends and family looked forward to the times he and Ruth hosted dinner.

He was confident in His faith of things not happening by coincidence, but that God had a plan for every situation. He was a life member of Franconia Mennonite Church.

In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by his son, Noah T. Detwiler & wife Breann; his daughter, Sara E. Detwiler & boyfriend, Mitchel Buck; his two granddaughters, Grace L. Detwiler and Annmarie R. Detwiler all of Telford, PA; his two brothers, Donald Z. Detwiler & wife Doris of Telford, PA, and Vernon Z. Detwiler & companion, Deanna Lemburg of Lansdale, PA.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Z. Detwiler, and his sister, Brenda Sue Detwiler.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Franconia Mennonite Church, from 5:30 - 7:00pm. A funeral will follow at 7pm. Franconia Mennonite Church 613 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA 18969.

Burial will take place at Franconia Mennonite Cemetery, Wednesday, November 9th at 9:30am.
