Linneaus "Linnie"
Metz Godshall
Sep 11, 1933 — Aug 8, 2021
Linneaus "Linnie" Metz Godshall, 87, of Souderton PA (formerly of Telford PA) went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
Born September 11, 1933, he was the son of the late Jonathan B. Godshall and the late Mamie G. (Metz) Godshall. He was the loving husband of Elsie (Gahman) Godshall for 59 years. He began working on the family farm in Franconia Township and then was a mill worker for Moyer & Son in Souderton. When drafted during the Korean War, Linnie did alternative service from 1956-1958 at Lancaster General Hospital through the 1-W program. He was employed at the former Godshall's Hatchery in Souderton and as a meat cutter for the former Isaiah Mininger & Son in Hatfield. He then worked in the meat department for the former Clemens Market in Lansdale for 29 years. After retiring, he worked part time for Bergey's in Franconia.
Linnie was a hardworking, fun-loving, caring man who had a good sense of humor. He served as a volunteer at Care & Share Thrift Shoppes in Souderton. He found joy in gardening, family trips to Lancaster for smorgasbord and games of miniature golf, traveling, grilling, biking, playing baseball, and listening to southern gospel music. He also looked forward to deer season each year and often filled the freezer with venison. He was devoted to his family and supporting his grandchildren's activities. During retirement Linnie and Elsie enjoyed trips to Florida where they often took in Phillies spring training games. Linnie was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan — faithfully cheering them on through good and not-so-good seasons.
Linnie was a life member of Franconia Mennonite Church where he was baptized as a young man after coming to personal faith in Jesus. He treasured God's Word, making it a priority to daily spend time in the scriptures.
In addition to his wife, Linnie is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey L. Godshall and wife, Donna of Harleysville PA, Steven R. Godshall and wife, Kristin of Souderton PA; his daughter Kristina K. Whetzel and husband, Richard of Rockingham VA; his six grandchildren — Micah, Jessica, Rebecca, Randall, Derek, and Samantha; and two sisters, Miriam Detwiler of New Milford PA and Verna Mae Detweiler of Souderton PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Willard, Ernest, Jonathan Newton, and Stanley and also two sisters, Eva Greaser and Anna Landis.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Franconia Mennonite Church, Route 113, Franconia, PA. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Franconia Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Branches Foundation, Souderton Mennonite Homes Agape Fund, 275 Dock Drive, Lansdale, PA 19446 or MCC Material Resource Center, 737 Hagey Center Drive, Unit C, Souderton, PA 18964.
