Obituary

Louise P. (Kalb) McMurtrie, 91, of Greentown, PA; formerly of Green Lane, PA went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 19, 2023 in Sellersville, PA, surrounded by family and friends.

Louise was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 9, 1932, to the late Peter J. and Anna (Hotegel) Kalb, the second oldest of four daughters. At the end of the second world war, her family moved to Montgomery County where her father bought a farm.

In 1952, she married the love of her life, John J. McMurtrie, Jr. Together, they raised three children in Green Lane. She had many jobs throughout her life, most notably working for Levy Bus Co. as one of the first female bus drivers in the area. In 1975, when John started his own mechanical engineering company, she became his bookkeeper.

In 1976, John and Louise bought a home on Lake Wallenpaupack in Greentown, which became the setting of many McMurtrie family gatherings. There, they could often be found outdoors, enjoying the scenic views with friends and family alike. After John's sudden passing in 2004, Louise made Lake Wallenpaupack her permanent residence, where she spent her remaining years.

Steadfast in her Catholic faith, Louise was an active parishioner of Saint Thomas Moore (Lake Ariel, PA), St. Agnes Sacred Heart (Sellersville) and St. Philip Neri (Pennsburg, PA). Additionally, she was a valued member of the Red Hat Society and the Souderton-Harleysville Game, Fish & Forestry Association.

We will remember Louise as a vibrant and adventurous woman, who never shied away from a new experience. She was an outdoor enthusiast, finding joy in boating, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, and golfing (she had two hole-in-ones in her lifetime!). She traveled the world with friends and family, to places like Germany, Russia, Greece, and beyond. She shared her love for music with her family, playing accordion and keyboard at gatherings, and spending time anywhere she could enjoy live music.

Above all, Louise will be remembered for her selfless spirit, hospitality, and warmth. She welcomed everyone with open arms and a plate of food. She was always the life of the party and could light up a room with her laughter. She found happiness in caring for others, and will be greatly missed by those who were lucky enough to be loved by her. She took immense pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending as many games, recitals, and graduations as she could. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, humor, and togetherness.

Louise is survived by her son, John C. McMurtrie and wife Marta, of Telford, PA; her daughter, Louise V. Lear and husband Ronald, of Telford; her grandson, Joseph R. McMurtrie and wife Kellie of Lansdale, PA; her four granddaughters, Tara McCole and husband Jeffrey, of Perkasie, PA, Stephanie Lear-Wimmer and husband Brett, of Perkasie, Stacey Lear of Philadelphia, PA, Morgan McMurtrie and fiancé, Mekhi, of Philadelphia; her great-granddaughters, Julia, Katherine, Charlotte, Madison, Vera, and Lucille; her great-grandsons, Carson, Finley, and Dawson; and her sister, Johanna Matczak of Sellersville.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Bernadette Mary McMurtrie; her son, Joseph Peter McMurtrie; and two sisters, Mary Franke, and Christine Herbst.

A celebration of Louise's life and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 N. Main St., Sellersville, PA 18960. Her family will be available for visitation prior to the mass, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
