Luther Samuel Thomas, Jr. , 84, of Telford, PA; formerly of Souderton RD, PA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at his residence.

He was the loving husband of Ruth Anne (Hawk) Thomas for 62 years. Luther was born in Lansdale, PA to the late Luther Samuel Thomas, Sr. and the late Gwendolyn (Evans) Thomas.

Luther was employed as an Oil Truck Driver for Moyers & Sons in Souderton for 17 years. He worked as a machine operator for the former Penn Tackle & Fishing in Kulpsville, PA for 10 years. Luther worked as school bus driver for 13 years for Souderton Area School District. He worked as mail deliveryman for Docks Woods Community in Lansdale for 2 years.

Luther was a member and volunteer of Generations of Indian Valley in Souderton. He was member of North Wales Baptist Church where he served as an usher and played on the men's softball league.

Luther loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing cards especially Pinochle. Luther loved going to the stock car races - Grand View speedway, Flemington raceway, Reading Fairground, and various other racetracks. He enjoyed a car ride to the cabin to enjoyed a weekend with his family. Luther enjoyed watching football on TV, feeding the birds, and eating sweets.

He was a quiet, caring, loving man who always had a warm smile.

In addition to his wife, Luther is survived by her two daughters, Debra Lou Petersen & husband, Charles of Lansdale, PA, Sharon Ruth Hunsberger & husband, James of Souderton, PA; his son, Thomas David Thomas & companion, Debra Heiser of Philadelphia, PA; his seven grandchildren – Christian, Sean, Kelly Anne, Jami, Jimmy, Evan, & Emily; his 11 great-grandchildren – Evan, Zane, Shayla, Zach, Noah, Mason, Lola, Leo, Maxwell, Charlotte, & Clayton; and his sister, Gwendolyn Taylor & husband, Robert "Bob" of Willowick, OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret "Peg" Kilmer.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Masks are not required for fully vaccinated attendees. If you are not vaccinated, masks are required.
