Mary E.
Boe
Nov 20, 1944 — Nov 27, 2020
Mary E. (Straw) Boe , 76, of North Wales, PA passed away due to sepsis on Friday, November 27th, 2020 at Einstein Medical Center, East Norriton, PA.
Mary was born in Chester, South Dakota to the late Thomas and Ellen (Getty) Straw. She grew up in Madison, SD, and graduated from Beadle High School in 1962.
She married Gordon Boe on June 8, 1968. Together, they survived Vietnam, graduate school, lived in SD, MD, VA and PA, raised three children, raised a deafblind granddaughter (Brittany), laughed a lot, cried some and loved each other more than they ever thought possible.
Mary was active in the Pennsylvania deafblind community for over 15 years, attending the annual Family Learning Conferences, learning valuable techniques to help her granddaughter and helping other parents cope with their issues and problems.
In addition to being devoted to her family, Mary loved supporting veterans. In 2005, she joined the Auxiliary at the Lansdale VFW. Shortly thereafter, Mary was elected President, a post she held for many years. She was also President of the 16th District Auxiliary for 7 years, making many friends at the State conventions.
She was proud of her contributions and achievements, but never boastful.
Mary was a quiet woman, but when she spoke people listened. Her granddaughters agree that she was a great listener herself, and when they came to her with problems, she always provided wise counsel.
Her talents extended into other areas. She was a great knitter, crocheter, and embroiderer. Mary was a fantastic cook, and filled the house with delicious aromas, especially at Thanksgiving (her favorite holiday).
Grateful for having shared Mary's life are her husband of 52 years, Gordon; two daughters, Kimberly Kaelin and Jessica Robertson, both of North Wales, PA; son Kevin Boe and his wife Beth of Pennsburg, PA; five grandchildren, Kayla, Mary Beth, Madelyn, Devon, and Christian; two great-grandchildren, Shia and Noah; three sisters, Ruth Bagley of Madison, SD, Carol Clark and husband Charles of Vermillion, SD, and Virginia Kauffman of AK; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Amber and Brittany; three brothers, Thomas, Ernest and Roger Straw, and a sister, Wilda Severtson.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the family at 1700 Gwynedd View Rd., North Wales, PA 19454
