Mary (Freed) Cassel, 86, of Souderton, formerly of Franconia, PA entered into rest on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

She was the loving wife of Paul H. Cassel for 65 years. Mary was born in Franconia, PA to the late Melvin H. Freed and Edith (Willouer) Freed.

She attended the Franconia Elementary School and Souderton High School.

Mary was employed as a seamstress for Sun-Lite and Merrill Landis Drapery. She used her love for baking at Dengler's Bakery and Landis Supermarket.

She was a member of Franconia Mennonite Church until she married Paul Cassel in 1957, and then became a member of the Finland Mennonite Church, where she participated in the ladies sewing circle.

Mary enjoyed sewing for MRC, volunteering for Care and Share Shoppes of Souderton and for the Souderton Mennonite Homes. She and her husband Paul were involved with the chapel services at Liberty Ministries at Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed many years as a stay at home mom raising her children.  She was an expert seamstress and known for her good cooking especially her homemade cinnamon buns and oyster filling. Most importantly Mary was a godly woman who was devoted to God and her family.

In addition to her husband, Paul, she is survived by her three sons, Paul D. Cassel & wife Donna of Perkasie, PA, Melvin J. Cassel & wife Joy of Telford, PA, and Philip D. Cassel & wife Edna of Winchester, TN; her daughter, Mary Alspach & husband Allan of Sellersville, PA; her ten grandchildren, Scott, Renita, Julie, Tyleyia, Brad, Beth, Allison, Melissa, Kelsey and Kendra; and fifteen great-grandchildren ; her six brothers, Floyd Freed & wife Edith of Pottstown, PA, Henry Freed & wife Rachael of Reinholds, PA, Arlin Freed & wife Sandra of Elroy, PA, Glenn Freed & wife Ella Mae of Pottstown, PA, Laverne Freed & wife Lorraine of Mount Pleasant Mills, PA, and Ray Freed & wife Bev of Schwenksville, PA.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Finland Mennonite Church, 1750 Ziegler Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073 from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 pm.

Burial will take place at Finland Mennonite Cemetery.
