Obituary

Mary M. (Ehst) Derstine , 101, of Sellersville, PA; formerly of Souderton, PA entered into rest on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at The Community at Rockhill.

She was the loving wife of the late Alvin A. Derstine for 28 years. Mary was born in Bally, PA to the late John L. Ehst and the late Elizabeth (Mack) Ehst.

She worked on the family farm in Bally, PA. Mary then worked as a seamstress at the former Sunlite Shop in Souderton, PA. She worked in the kitchen department at the former Alderfer Home (now known as The Community at Rockhill) in Sellersville, PA. Mary then worked in the custodial department for the former Union National Bank in Souderton. She was a devoted wife, step-mother, step-grandmother, step-great- grandmother, and step-great-great-grandmother.

Mary was a member of Souderton Mennonite Church where she served as a former Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher, and was active in the church's sewing circle. She was also a member of the Souderton Needle Guild.

Mary was a caregiver to many people in need. She enjoyed quilting, sewing infant garments, making dresses for herself and others, and knitting many baby caps for Grand View Hospital. Mary also enjoyed playing the organ, preparing Sunday dinners for family and friends, canning vegetables and fruits, and gardening.

She was an honest and caring woman who had a deep faith in God and was an avid reader of the Bible.

Mary is survived by her two step-sons, Carl Derstine of Wilmington, NC, Glenn Derstine & wife, Sylvia M. of Souderton, PA; her two step-daughters-in-law, Rosalie Derstine of Souderton, PA, Sylvia D. Derstine of Souderton, PA; her 22 step-grandchildren; and her numerous step-great-grandchildren and her step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her four step-sons, Clair, Kenneth, Vernon, & James Derstine; her three step-daughters-in-law, Catherine Derstine, Miriam G. Derstine, & Sue Derstine; her four brothers, Abram, Jesse, Paul, & Titus Ehst; and her sister, Lois Stoltzfus.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Souderton Mennonite Church, 105 W. Chestnut St., Souderton, PA 18964, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.

Burial will take place at Souderton Mennonite Church Cemetery.
